Lived in 4 different states, 7 different cities... I've been out the hood, including Cranberry, Whitehall, Brentwood, Baldwin, Washington County, Fayette County, Robinson, Moon, North Versailles, Erie County, West Mifflin...you're exaggerating like hell just to make a thread is all I'm saying. Ive lived places where it's majority white, and Pittsburgh really ain't one of those places

:dwillhuh: thats where it is most prevelant breh no way you didnt experience it there. ive lived in highland park my whole life and my neighborhood has been pretyt diverse for the most part. alot of middle class families from different backgrounds. When ive gone out to the bolded ive experienced things on many different occasions

dont get me wrong i used to HAAATE this place as i get older i have grown a love for it and its not a bad place to live by any means.
but being black here SUCKS. you have alot of ignorance here i mean tons all over the place also the job scene for young black professionals is almost non existent.

and being that i grew up in highland park and still live here. im starting to see ALOT of gentrification. i mean ive watched east liberty shadyside oakland bloomfield and lawrenceville. there is still tons of racism here. but the classicm is gonna smack alot of middle class people and below in the face as soon as it effects them.

It really does. I learned to appreaciate this city as I moved away, but I really hated it with a passion for years before I moved. Infact, I kind of hated growing up here.

And yeah, the job scene for young black professionals (not to mention the singles scene) is damn near non-existent. I work with AFLAC in NYC now, and there is literally no job in Pittsburgh where I would make the same amount of money..it would be significantly less. I mean significantly. But then again, there aren't really any jobs in Pittsburgh.

And looking at downtown is sad. In NY, DC, Philadelphia, etc...there are many black folks working everything from corporate white collar positions to blue collar positions. In Pittsburgh, most black people work blue collar and working class jobs and with the few black professionals there are there seems to be no room for advancement in any of those positions. I'm talking places where there are 400-500 employees in a building and 10 of them are black.

I think someone people came into this thread expecting examples of people being overtly racist. but thats not what it really is at all.

but everything you said is what its really all about. funny thing is you see more affluent and successful blacks when i was growing up then you do now. its interesting to say the least.

i cant tell you how difficult it is to find a job and dating scene here. i also think because the population is massive you see alot of people getting married at crazy young ages as well. one thing i will say though is if you can establish yourself here white or black it will take you a long way in this city.

I definitely have noticed that people tend to get married and have kids in Pittsburgh around 22-24. I think it really has to do with the very conservative and old fashioned mentality of the area. Also, I think it has alot to do with the fact that the city doesn't really offer that much (nightlife, jobs, etc).

Whereas in NY, DC, Philly most people are still single into their late 20s, 30s, and even 40s. From my perspective and experiences living in NY it's easier to meet women than it is in Pittsburgh. I just gave up on the dating scene in Pittsburgh. Besides the fact that men seem to outnumber women in the Burgh, most women are just conceited princesses with low standards. They'll completely ignore a guy who's doing something for himself and has a personality for some deadbeat jock whos doing relatively nothing with their life.

It is easy to network in Pittsburgh just due to how small it is.

Me and my friends were saying the bolded for YEARS! The 7s-10s in Pittsburgh would be a 5 in NYC or LA. I've had women that were admittedly out of my league chatting me up in NY...I even lived with a couple...:myman:

I've noticed that interracial dating is pretty frowned upon in Pittsburgh. It really is a "stick with your own kind" city. I've also noticed that most black women in Pittsburgh seem to date white guys...and most black men in Pittsburgh are seldom seen with women. It's sad as a mofo.

Not that I have anything against that thing, but it just makes being black, male and single in Pittsburgh even harder. Also, there aren't that many ethnic women in Pittsburgh and the ones that are I've noticed date white guys too.

Reppin the 412 myself. Its racist here. You might not get called a ****** to your face everyday but you'll hear it depending on where you are.

Ive mainly come into contact with p*ssy ass bigots who will try to be your friend, but then call somebody a spook or som shyt. I cant have that around me so I've had to watch who I befriend at times, but for real I'm sick of having to do that.

Luckily you can usually tell if someone got that :mjpls: pretty early. Ive been tricked before though.

Black folk are really racist here too lately..Maybe i didnt notice it as much, but ive been starting to peep that shyt..Racist towards whites and especially racist toward lightskinned people and other black folk. Lots of self hate in Pittsburgh to accomodate the hate we've already got going on here.

I've been called everything from an oreo, to a "white boy" and "uncle tom" from other black people in Pittsburgh. They would say this to me when I was skateboarding on the streets from their cars. Sad stuff.

Sh!t...I even got jumped by dudes from the hill when I was going to Pitt in Oakland back in 2007 (I even made a thread on :hamster: about it back then). There were even some incidents when black dudes from there were targeting black students at Pitt and were robbing/assaulting them.

Born and raised in Monroeville. Monroeville has alot of whites. A few blacks sprinkled in but mostly white. All my fam. Cousins in such where from ( Mom side) Wilkinsburgh. Damn near %100 black. I left for the Military when I was 20. When I got in the military I was immediately was introduced to mexicans and ricans etc. . I literally saw none of that in Pittsburgh. We had one half rican cat Frank who moved into our neighborhood while I was in high school.

Pretty motherfukker got all the girls. He didnt even speak Spanish. :stopitslime:

When I moved away I noticed rapidly that it was so much easier to talk to women.:ohhh: In the Burgh chicks were so stuck up. I was striking out left n right. :yeshrug: I went to the CHI and then to DC and then to Florida. :wow:

When I got out the service and moved back to the Burgh. . .I lasted for two years. I had success talking to women. . But not like down south. I packed up and headed back down to florida. Plus the job situation is dismal for a young black professional dude. The night life was dismal compared to other cities. I had to go.

Yeah ive gotten called white boy alot and mostly by WOMEN :dead:

Black women have a TERRIBLE reputation here and they are public enemy #1 it seems

When i worked downtown for 3 years, I got to see the worst of the worst everyday. Such low standards and quality down there in the life department. And thats with black and white folks.

And thats another wack fact about PGH..its NOT diverse at all. just black, white, and yella. Unless you're up by the colleges you wont see much beyond the norm.
