Thanks for moving this thread here!

Anyways, I might feature this thread, because not only has this been an interesting subject to me due to showing that Africans were indeed influential around the world, but even had their own STATES OUTSIDE OF AFRICA and that the Moors weren't the only ones, but I believe almost all of the Coli should know about for the reasons I stated.

I also found additional and interesting sources from another forum about the Siddi dynasty and how they ruled. I even found out that the Janjira state remained technically independent even while the British controlled India! And that the Siddi dynasty or "habshi" not only rivaled the British in navel power, but also defeated them. This kinda supports my claims that people from East Africa were a navel powerhouse in the Indian ocean.

Maybe Indian poster @GetInTheTruck can add to this.

Also I see no one posted this images of the Janjira state

The island of Janjira (from jazeera, island or peninsula in Arabic) was a formidable fortress entirely surrounded by large walls with 22 rounded bastions. It was also known as Habsan (from Habsha, Ethiopia).

Tomb of Sidi Surur Khan

Sidi Surur II was chosen as the nawab of Janjira in 1707. Prior to his appointment, he was in charge of another fort—west of the island—that had been overtaken by the Siddis. With the money raised for the construction of the fort, he built this tomb at Khokri, a mosque in Rajpuri and a mansion on Janjira for his daughter. Next to his tomb are the smaller tombs of Sidi Qasim Khan and his brother Sidi Khairiyat Khan; the latter was the commander of the Siddi army and the nawab of Janjira from the 1670s until his death in 1696.

Janjira was allowed to operate first under Muslim rule, then under the British. They capitalized off foreign rule in India and were eating pretty good. When India won its independence they actually tried to remain their own state but got the :camby:

part of the reason siddis are sometimes side-eyed in India is because they are seen as descendants of Muslim and British lapdogs.

Why wouldn't they want to secede from India when for most their history they acted independence from India.

And British laptops? For most their late history they were fighting against the British.

Because they were foreigners who should have understood the jig was up once India got it's independence.

If they had squabbles with the British, it was for their own self interests, that's fine, but at the end of the day they still operated under them and for their benefit.

Again of course they would? Janjira from what I read for the most part was independent of India for most its history. Did India even help them during their wars with the British? I know the Maratha Empire tried to conquer them.

Conquer them? The Marathas were trying to fight off Muslim rule in India, a legacy which was far from peaches and roses. Mughal, african, or whoever, it is what it is. Eventually the marathas started to win and that's when janjira begged the Brits to come and intervene. Why would Indians help them after the fact? They did the right thing by getting at the head of the snake and then telling the siddis to get with the program or kick rocks.

But before they had successfully resisted conquest from the Marathas. And as for the second sentence, why would India would them to be apart of India after that? And if India was fighting off Muslim rule why would they want an Islamic state apart of India? And you forget that the Siddis were also fighting the British.
