Mike Brown and Sandra Bland are both examples of police brutality. They have the same root causes. Its the difference in attention that is paid to both that is an issue, since Black women who suffer violence at the hands of police, domestic partners, etc are not being paid attention to.

If black women and men built functioning communities we would probably have fewer comments like the one she posted.

The reason I used the quote you replied to is because as black women we have our own separate unique issues that white feminists cannot relate to. We are BLACK...and WOMEN...that's two oppressed groups. Unlike other races of women, black women are not protected at a much lower rate, we come from poorer back grounds, we have make less money, we are the most unwed, we are more times often than not, the head of the household, our issues are just...different. We are socialized to place the black mans needs before our own but it's not reciprocated. 1. Ok you fail to realize that the only race of men that collectively looks at you as women are black men. Non black men do not view black women as women like they view their non black women. I never see white men defending Serena Williams, but they sure as hell defended Taylor Swift when Kanye interrupted her speech. On the other hand it was black men defending her and calling her attractive. Non blacks don't even look at black men as real men. That is why for so long you had non black men referring to black men as boys.

2. Black women are not protected because they are not seen as women by non black people. You do not understand that to others WE ARE BLACK BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE. The only men that are going to protect are black men. We should not seek protection from other races of men. Black men in this society are not respected. We still have black men being lynched today.

Feminism is the reason so many black women who are raising children on their own are able to obtain education, a job, or career and provide for their children, why some black men who up and leave their children without looking back have to at least do the bare minimum of providing child support, why the rate of fatherless children is now much lower...because they now have access to birth control, why there are clinics for low income women who cannot afford health care. Education really is such a powerful tool and I believe that the fate of the black community really falls on the backs of black women. I hope more black women continue to become educated and this is instilled in the children they are raising, and they also go on to do the same...this is how we will better our community.
