Out here in my damn drawls
I almost slapped the shyt out of a dude in film studies class year when we had this sort of debate. His arguments kept falling about and then he's talmbout, "Why aren't there white leads in black movies then? :dwillhuh:" like he said something profound. He said this at the same time trying to claim that Hollywood doesn't cater to white audiences and cast a heavy majority of white leads :comeon:.

the reason there aren't more black leads is movie is because the executives believe (wether they are right or wrong is another debate) that movies with white leads will make more money because they believe that's what most of the people want to see. so who ever greenlights movies has the power and it trickles down from there to the director.whoever is putting their money on the line gets to decide what it is.

that's why it's just easier to ignore black directors... let one in and he wants to blow up your spot (like spike lee in the beginning)

i think i understand why they are keeping the black race down in the movie business :ehh:

He's right though. There's a movie reality and then there's real reality.

You have studios setting movies and tv shows in large urban areas like New York and LA where there are huge minority populations but, the entire cast is white. New York City is 28% Hispanic, 33% Non-Hispanic White, 23% Non-Hispanic Black, 13% Asian. Yet you watch How I Met Your Mother, Sex and the City or Friends, and those shows would make you believe New York is full of cacs :rudy:

:patrice:You have white execs, actors, directors with black babies, "friends," family members, and lovers...but yet they are still willing to follow the trend of a glass ceiling for black hollywood
So imagine how "regular" white folks handle/deal with the glass ceiling for black folks in various industries whose hiring practices are not in the spot light like it is when casting for a movie:wtb:

This is suppose to be a very "liberal" industry :russ:

:myman:I don't know who this dude is, I plan to research further and support him
He has done something that 99% of black hollywood is afraid to do because he clearly has the talent and the resources mixed with the opportunity that goes beyond hollywoods' pockets, which 99% of black holywood don't

its like them other directors used that senfield ( i know its wrong) gif where he says naah im good and waives off the question lol..

WHITE DIRECTORS unable to answer why WHITE DIRECTORS dont cast more minorities in leading roles :russ:

but the dude kinda backed down when he was asked does he feel its harder for black actors.. he shoulda continued and was like YES obviously look at the round table unable to answer why THEY dont cast black/latino actors
He played it perfectly because he left it open ended for one of the other directors to address it directly without having to respond to what his reasons were
He asking white directors to explain their unwritten rule, without answering it for them

the reason there aren't more black leads is movie is because the executives believe (wether they are right or wrong is another debate) that movies with white leads will make more money because they believe that's what most of the people want to see. so who ever greenlights movies has the power and it trickles down from there to the director.whoever is putting their money on the line gets to decide what it is.

Every great actor is created due to the opportunities they get to display their talents
Just like the best rapper may be some dude working in the stock room of a department store, if he gets no shine on radio/tv then he gets no chance to display his talents
So I never brought into the notion that black hollywood lacks the support from hollywood due to the fear of poor sales because a good movie script and a talented actor is a great combination

He's right though. There's a movie reality and then there's real reality.

Take that a little further...when you find it hard to cast non-white leads for fictional/imaginary movies, then it's obviously a casting rule that is not based in the talent of the actors
