His point was that it's has been done too much and it's just a reason for white people to rub it in our faces. They aren't doing it to show no history or build up black people. Trying to remind you, you still a nikka and no one cares
People always say that there are too many slave movies, but how many do you actually know of? I can only count a handful opposed to lets say holocaust movies which are still being released to this day. I'm all for movies where we aren't victims, but slavery is apart of our history and something that shouldn't be overlooked just because we had like 3 movies on it and a tv show.

Overlooked??? lol I don't really watch movies anymore. I'm just saying his point is valid. Making one every year for what reason exactly??? We need to make movies about this modern day slavery we are in. Watching slave movies or movies about oppression is not going to help me. All it's for is to give people a reason to laugh. They don't care about history.

Whats wrong with movies depicting slavery? Not suggesting that we shouldn't have movies that cover the entirety of the African experience but yall wanna act like those 400 years of slavery aren't important in the context of African American history :what:. Every facet of African history should be told and retold, and yes that includes the stain of slavery.

Your more than a slave and the image being used to represent you shows you as having been nothing else. Some people have a hard time picking up a book but looking at a movie is a lot easier and being hit with the same theme has the ability to condition that person into believing it without knowing any better. Hell my older brother and me have arguments a lot of times and somehow we got on to black history and you know what he told me? What history? I couldn't tell if he was joking or not. I've been telling him things here and there but even with that he's resistant to hearing it because "how can it be true look at where we are today". There's a mental wall in place for a lot black people that disables them from being inspired by their history and give them perspective on what their purpose should be in whatever goals they pursue.

I agree with nick cannon, but at the same time black people will past it over for a american gangster 2 or even a Love & Hip-Hop Movie :manny:

Black people movies are about Slavery or depiction of a musical legend and i even see they talking about marlon wayans playing richard pryor :snoop:

when it comes to movies evolving around africa it's about Apartheid or the diamond trade and some white guy being the hero minus hotel rwanda

I'm not talking about butler type movies, movies where blacks are important supportive characters, or movies like the blind side. I'm talking about straight up serious slave movies. On that list I just see 12 years and django (which was just an action comedy than anything).

this is incorrect.

Its not that they DONT WANT to fund these things.

Hollywood is INCREDIBLY liberal...its that THEY CAN'T MAKE THEIR MONEY BACK FROM THEIR AUDIENCES.

The movie industry is just like any other business at the end of the day.

If you want to make documentaries and projects of passion that will allow you to tell stories you're DYING to do...then go ahead.

But the big studios aren't gambling on shyt they can't be certain won't make money.

I need no other example than what George Lucas went through trying to make "Red Tails"
I find it hard to believe it's a simple money issue.
It's a consideration, to be sure.
But the suspicion that non-whites may not flock to the theaters to watch a movie with black actors certainly has racial undertones.

I would be all for it but truth of the matter them types of movies like that and Rosewood, the great debaters they don't make no money. If they don't make money even cats of here wouldn't keep making them cause the goal even through the enlightenment is to make money usually. One day though I hope my statements are wrong

you can call it racism all you want, but white people aren't OBLIGATED to fill seats.

Movies are just like any other financial investment.

All Nick Cannon is saying there's more movies about african history that should be made besides slavery in America
and also is funny those all the critically acclaimed black movies by the white media are all slave movies

Jamie Foxx been on these award shows lately talking about how he's gonna do better and all this and Harry Belafonte told him about responsibility, but he missed the point. the OG was checking him for doing that c00n ass Django movie
we have to control the images of our people in all facets

I'm proud of Nick Cannon, he was suppose to be the next Will Smith and never lived up to that as an actor, but as a boss I think he surpasses Smith, and still has great things to accomplish.
