Black Americans are the creators of Breakdancing, Rapping and Hip Hop... NOT Latinos says a guy who grew up with DJ Cool Herc.

First of all who has ever mentioned Latinos as starting hip hop

But more importantly. When you say “started by black Americans ” what do you mean by that. Are you also discrediting Kool Herc? These comments read as if people don’t realize/overlook he’s not “ADOS” either. You gon be hard pressed to play the “ADOS” game in NY, especially the Bronx. Folks heritage is from everywhere

He didn't start it either, he just gets the lion's share of the credit.

Someone played a video here once of Nigerians breaking in the 1940s or something..

Latinos were mere spectators back then, same as they are today. If Latinos contribution is generally meagre today, its even harder to imagine their contribution back then.

Most Latino traditional dances, Merengue, Bachata, Salsa etc are African in origin anyway so if they thought that was a contribution in hiphop its not. Hip hop is a Black American/ Weat Indian creation.

Boogie Down BX
A guy who grew up with DJ Cool Herc and claims to know the first B-Boys says that Black Americans are responsible for Hip Hop, Breakdancing and Rapping NOT Latinos.

"Hip Hop didn't even have a name and it existed 5 to 7 years before Latino's even got involved in it" - 1:05:20 mark of the video.

He breaks everything down starting at 58:00 of the video. He also talks about Puerto Ricans being racist against Blacks before they even started trying to get involved in Hip Hop and the Breakdancing that Black Americans were already doing. He talks about this at 1:02:19 of the video.

:francis: like what’s even da purpose of this thread ?

the dude speaking grew up with Herc which is the West side of da BX
while the East side of da BX is where the culture was created specifically by the black Spades

Fat Joe is saying nikka because he grew around black people same reason why is in hip hop

if puerto ricans influenced anything in hip hop black people will doing stuff puerto ricans do, black people don't

this thread is quoted from somebody was a youth in birth of hip hop and he just told it sall blacks

big pun was like the first real puerto rican MC who could actually rap on high level and respected as a top tier MC, and there hasn't been a latino rapper yet to come close to his status, yet you want me to believe latinos had something to do with hip hop

you live in a fantasy world

fukked up that this even has to be said. Hispanics definitely played a part and are ingrained in Hip Hop's infancy but the creators were Blacks.

See... that's thing. These Latinos are not just saying that they were their early after Hip Hop started... they're saying that they helped create it from the beginning. But we all know how the game goes... 20 years from now it's going to be that the Latinos are the ones who really "Created" Hip Hop and the Blacks came later and contributed to it. Sh*t... the Latinos already say that about the Breakdancing but the OG in the video said that that's not even true.

Y'all be having this convo too many times, you can contribute to something but not invent something. And a contribution isn't unsignifcant either. Regardless, what are you doing to celebrate & appreciate the contributions made? I see white folks talk on and on by bruce springsteen and some crappy old rock artist, and go to see them.
