I was just listening to "Who Shot Ya" and I was thinking this is a track that only biggie could make. This shyt is just grimey, and as much as biggie was able to make them straight crossover tracks, he was still extrememly street and extremely dark. And I started thinking about how Jay took up biggies spot after he passed. Realisitcally, biggie wouldn't have been able to make the transition to the boardroom the way Jay has. Jay was always kinda street, but his music was never dark, it was always flossy to a degree. I dont think biggie would ever have been quite as accepted in the mainstream outside of hip-hop. Dont even know if I really even have a point, just thinking out loud

edit - meant to post this in The Booth

I don't think he would have wanted to. If you remember his interviews from back then all he wanted to do was finish his albums put on Junior Mafia and go away and smoke weed.

marrying beyonce helped jays career a ton too believe it or not.

It helped both their careers. It's funny how a lot of people don't even realize this. Around the time that The Black Album dropped is when Jay REALLY took off.

Comments like this are crazy. Jay would have def surpassed Big. From a marketing standpoint, Jay has a lot more appeal to ALL crowds. Big would have def been in Hip Hop, but imagine Big doing a song with Chris Martin?

BIG was pretty versatile. Even if he wasn't as appealing is Jay is right now to the masses, its not like artists have never reinvented themselves.

But threads like these are ridiculous. He's dead and we'll never know, so half the posts in here will be hypothetical.

Jay wouldn't be where he's at now if Biggie were alive. BIG would be with beyonce. and he would have never had a bytch outshine him. that shyt happen with wayne too. biggie would never let kim surpass him.

I'm not discrediting Beyonce with Jay's crossover success, but to say that he wouldn't be as big as Big is retarded. I don't know if he would have crossed over as well without Beyonce, but he was def one of the more commercial/charismatic rappers out in his time. Dude was bound to be a star.

The only other rapper I could have seen in a spot like his was TI. Both very marketable on a level that other rappers aren't. And don't bring Kanye and Wayne into this because they are a different TYPE of rapper

When people make hypothesis like this it only makes you ask yourself a couple of cuestions: Would Jay still be this big (music/hip hop wise)?, would Biggie be still relevant at this point?

Personally, I'd think Biggie as Tupac would've faded by now, and Jigga... Well, he's a man with ambition, had he not made it in rap I'd still think he would've made it through other venues.

lol @ TI

dude can't even pronounce the english language correctly. Andre 3000 is more marketablel than Kanye and Wayne put together.
