that ready to die/junior mafia run tho

and that run of guest spots

man this is tough.

I voted jay tho

Big was really starting to blow with Big Poppa...then like someone else said, when One More Chance rmx dropped, he was basically recognized as the king of NY. That vid had Heavy D, Mary J, Aaliyah, and others. Everyone was trying to ride that Biggie wave.

He pretty much single handedly took the spotlight off the west.

Yeah Jay had the Annie joint in 98 which was a big song, but he wasn't on Biggies level.

No Father To MY Style.. A Son Unique
Biggie. This is where he made his run to the goat. Coming off ready to die, one more chance remix... a lot of hits..

Jay coming off hard knock life... i thought album was catchy and commercial but not soemthing id go back to. Its what made jay a household name but NOONE puts it as jays best album suprisingly. Money aint a thing. Money cash hoes. Hard knock life. Then volume 3. Do it again. Jay was on top by end of 99.

Dmx was done by his third album (or atleast winding down) and jay was peaking up that steam.

"All you hear is x and jigga. Haha you vexed nikka. No airplay.." raekwon to ghost on the watch

This is closer than i think i thought at first but im still going with big cuz it set the bar for being the hnic in nyc.

Biggie controlled 1995, but Hov's 1999 was probably bigger in the grand picture.

Jay-Z came fresh off Vol 2, had the Hard Knock Life Tour in spring 1999, dissed 50 Cent at Summer Jam 1999, founded Roc-A-Wear in 1999. Finished the year with Vol 3 while stabbing Un.

A lot of people got high-level positions after the success of both the Hard Knock Life Tour and Vol 2. Thank Hov for that.

big made better music in the time line mentioned but jay was more popular i think. the annie sample just made everyone relate to the song. not only did little jenny know the song but mini van mom knew that shyt to.
