I'd have more faith in him getting it together than Megill. It's a gamble worth taking and he's gonna be comfortable still being in NY and around a familiar face (Mendoza). The guy still throws mid to upper 90s and is 29. It's one year and only one move and the type they had to make ( high risk/high reward) w/ so many holes in the rotation.
This is likely not going to fill the hole well. Thinking he is just gonna go back to 3.somwthing ERA after he just had a 6.65 isn't likely. I hope I'm wrong but first glance I don't like the move. We could have gotten someone proven for less.

Would you be happier with them signing him or Lance Lynn/Kyle Gibson?

I'd rather have Severino and sign a younger starter of the Lance Lynn Gibson ilk for innings sake. Also this year is such an outlier when you compare it to his career while showing plus velocity.

I would want someone like Wade Miley, Flaherty, Maeda. And I bet they would all be cheaper.

Sounds like Cohen fed Scherzer some bullshyt just to get him to agree to the trade and get out.

Soto, Yamamoto, Severino and an Alonso extension sounds like a good Off-Season. Another good starter is house money

Winter meetings sounds like a great time to put pen to paper. I wonder if he is tired of saying the same thing over and over again

Cohen flew out to Japan to meet with Yamamoto. Nothing says I want to hire you like the owner flying to the other side of the world. If he doesn't sign here, it has to be that he doesn't want to live in NYC, because I doubt they are going to go cheap with the contract.
