Democrats stubbornness and arrogance on this one issue, will be their downfall. I'm still a liberal but even liberals before whatever the fukk happened in the late 2000's and 2010's had a sensible message on the immigration issue. It's time to turn back the clock and go back to that. Corporations and politicians who are being paid by them to act as a medium have successfully hijacked social justice messaging in order to propagandize the population into accepting a decrease in their power in the labor market.
This American Life, a show that is no where near conservative, has an episode where the covered illegal workers in Alabama chicken farms and they talk about how illegal immigrants were brought in by the owners as a way of busting the unions because the illegals were unwilling to join the union because they always had the threat of deportation over their heads. The way they have conflated any push back against immigration being used by business to undermined american labor power being intolerant and bigoted is an insidious perversion of those terms in order for the 1% to increase their power and wealth. Sadly, it was very effective.
In this clip, Sanders, a leftist, is introducing legislation to reduce H1Bs. No it's not about "migrants" but the dynamics are the same. Immigrants, regardless of what type, being used as a way to undermine american workers. Now, he would be called a bigot by the political media for this stance. This is from 2007 before the shift in the way these issues were discussed and where Democrats need to shift their focus back to.
P. S. "Migrants" is the new political term to somehow make this a different situation. Also, the lax nature of how these people get in this country through the current system is not stringent enough to believe all claims of "asylum" are legit because there is no way the government is vetting every claim enough.
Edit: here is the first part of that podcast I mentioned. It's a two part series. Again, this show is the furthest thing from conservative and highlights the dynamic mentioned and the American workers with grievencies aren't all ignorant white rednecks. Plenty of black workers mentioned to.
What really happened when undocumented workers showed up in one Alabama town?
