if we are going by the title BEST RAPPER 'said year' it shouldn't have anything to do with only releasing an album in that said year !!! it should have to do with that rapper as a whole whether it's singles, freestyles, collaborations, mixed tapes and YES albums too...
I mean let's just take the very beginning of this list Grand Master Caz, Melly Mel, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow etc. etc. **im not 100% on this** BUT mostlikely didn't drop an album of the year they've were giving BEST RAPPER in that year

I wanna say any album that was released in the third or fourth week of November was considered a first quarter industry release. Which comes into play when you get on majors.
Or if the major picked up the rights to the record.
Yet since rap had its dark ages in the conversion to the new school way of thought.
It is highly relevant to this.
1984-1985-1986 : I need a beat twelve inch white label with I need a beat the long version.
This record has a long complicated story behind the general loss of I need a beat the long version.
Which I don't know all the facts on, as it had supposed numeous indie printings and I am not sure of the exact date the long version disappeared on the single as a release.
