I think we have gotten this thread right for the most part with Paul being the right or most replied answer it seems. In 2008 he should have gotten it over Kobe and 09 he would have except Bron happened. Same think happened to him and Wade in 09 who were both worthy that season. It's not their fault they played during Bron's peak though.

Dwyane Wade, Kawhi Leonard, Chris Paul, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor.

That’s the top 5 for sure.

West should have won 1970, won't be surprised if Reed won it to make up for 1969 though

Wade/Baylor had some MVP caliber seasons but bad timing

Kawhi had a good argument to win 2017 even though at the time it was all Westbrook/Harden. I didn't think he should have won it at the time but in retrospect I now do

Does anybody think that 08 MVP either should've went to cp3 or kevin Garnett?Seems like they gave it to kobe as sorta a lifetime achievement award
They gave it to him because he had the Lakers winning pre-Pau trade in a year they wasn’t expected to make the playoffs. They were 28-16 before the Pau trade.

That’s the year Kobe was asking to be traded and wanted Bynum traded for Jason Kidd.

Chris Paul absolutely was the best player that year though and Garnett/LeBron had a strong case too.

Not yet career-wise, but there is a good chance he can if he keeps up his regular-season + playoff momentum for 3-5 more seasons.

Kawhi hasn't given an MVP-caliber regular season yet. Last year was the closest to it, but he won't have one until he plays over 72 games with 25/5/5 and a top-seeded Clippers..
2016-2017 was definitely an MVP caliber year for Kawhi in hindsight.

We all got caught up with the gaudy #s and historic stats Russ & Harden we’re putting up, but Kawhi easily the most valuable 2 way player that season.

He was pushing the superteam Warriors for the #1 seed for the majority of the year with a mostly :flabbynsick: Spurs squad

The years things makes it interesting. CP3 in 08 came to mind, but you had Kobe doing Kobe shyt on a top seed. You had KG on a 66 win team. So realistically what is his case? Same with Wade. I see a lot of mentions of the 09 season. He was a beast. But his squad only won 43 games in the east. If we are going by the usual criteria, what exactly is his case? A lot of times, you just had guys that just checked more boxes or certain circumstances just weren't in your favor. Most guys generally don't win it in the first MVP caliber season.

The Lakers exceeded expectations and had the best record in the west. If they are the 5 seed, he probably doesn't get it.

The Hornets were the number 2 seed though and won just one less game than the Lakers.

For Wade in '09. LeBron was just better his team won 66 games he finished second in the DPoY race, you look at all his analytics he leads Wade, LeBron also consistently dominated that season while Wade ramped up as the season wore on to carry the Heat to the playoffs, then LeBron had a monstrous playoff run.

Then you had Kobe who won 65 games to Wade's 43 games and he finished second because of that.

I like Worthy, but he was an average rebounder, didn't stand out as a defender or passer

Pippen was a great defender, great passer, good rebounder for his position. He could do it all.

Worthy won Finals MVP in 1988 because there was no clear cut MVP up to that point (Magic was slowed in the playoffs that year by a groin injury), and he had an exceptional Game 7
