I completely get you, OP.
I grew up surrounded by Blacks and Latinos so it was never something that I was constantly conscious of but the moment I started attending school is when suddenly all the "ignorance is bliss" stuff went out the window and I had to be aware of the fact that I was surrounded by mostly white people. The microaggressions were the worst part for me honestly because that shyt just builds up and up until it's just dehumanizing. shyt made those first two years of school stressful and it would've been great if I didn't have to go through that but what worked for me is finding ways to reaffirm my Blackness, no matter how unimportant it seemed. I had to take advantage of all the resources that I was surrounded by or else I don't know if I would've wanted to keep going through with it.
I just talked to my homey via text yesterday...I'll be returning to NYC at the end of December.@*L*E*G*A*C*Y*

Thanks for the links though.
I'll admit, I had some c00n behaviors back in the day...I attribute it to my upbringin in suburbia.Especially when you grow up in this environment. That's why i usually understand certain "c00n" behaviors that some people here are so quick to point. I don't think a black person can fully develop around non-black people. I'm ill mentally and i'm not sure if i could ever recover from the damage i've suffered throughout these years.
I couldn't imagine living in a prodominately white area. Every time I go on a road trip I'm hesitant about stopping at particular truck stops cause I ain't tryna be "Jose who mysteriously disappeared after purchasing some slim jims at the gas station" I'm always on high alert when the majority is white people. Which fortunately for me is very rare.
Exactly. I'm all the way in south Florida. U know how long it takes to finally leave Florida and then I gotta go through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas shyt is a nightmarebreh I know that feeling, all to well Stopping off at a gas station or a truck stop and its nothing but dudes looking like they fought in teh confederate war
whenever im in a spot or area or town like this,a nd i see a black person or another minority I give the you got me b?:

I've come to this conclusion today while being at the Casino trying to bide my time with something to preoccupy it. After being in NYC and being surrounded by tons of black and brown faces, I just realized the mental anguish and eventual physical anguish that comes from trying to live in these predominantly and overwhelmingly white cities like Pittsburgh as a black man or woman, where I am at the very moment.
Besides disparities in health care and treatment, there are other indirect and direct factors as to why I've come to this conclusion. In certain environments, it's not about being yourself, but trying to adapt to the whims of the dominant class I've noticed black people n predominantly white environments either tend to stick to their own or socialize with the dominant group. By doing so they change their behaviors, attitudes, diction, speech, dress, and everything else to that displayed of the dominant group. But they will never be fully embraced by them and often the stress of realizing how their blackness contrasts in a landscape shaped by whiteness can cause mental anguish and conflict.
Also, being in places where you can't see other black people on a consistent basis takes a very sharp mental toll. I remember growing up in lily white suburbia and when I was younger (from going to predominantly white schools and watching TV with it's make up of predominantly white faces) I felt more like identifying with whites and wanting to be white (see: the doll test). This is the brainwashing this system does. This is not new though.
Physically, there come many stressors from trying to live a normal life in these cities/towns/places. You need a job to live and make money, but very seldom of these places hire blacks. That can lead to a downturn in that individuals quality of life. Trying to meet men and women will also prove very difficult and maintaining a somewhat static sex life towards better mental health. Which then leads to breakdowns in one's immune system and being susceptible to colds and disease. As well, racism from low to high levels and dealing with whites as the enforcers of it can cause aggravated stress, anger issues, and depression. Seeing constant influxes of whites from each and every angle can create mental and physical stress from these factors and more.
I feel where @bdizzle was coming from when he said that being around whites is TOXIC. I agree. This is why I don't get sucessful black people who move to the suburbs and attempt to seperate themselves from other blacks. And then take pride in their token status. They are not accepted and never will. In my opinion, true success comes from building strong black communities where black people can flourish and grow as human beings without being hindered from outside sources directly or indirectly. In my opinion, it's vital that blacks live and work and build with other blacks in America and beyond and try to stay away.

what part of Africa you moving to btw?I've been saying this for a while now. Being around white people is cancerous to black folk. Honestly I can't wait to finally leave this country to a place where my interactions with cacs will be slim to none
