I remember being like :krs: :wow: when these disses were going on. As a kid, these battles felt epic and I was like :gladbron: following.

For some reason, I never had concern for these dudes' lives (like somebody was gonna get killed) like I did with Ja Rule and 50 Cent. I thought somebody was gonna end up dead for real :pachaha:.

jay got niccas fooled. i gotta give it to him. that man is a genius.:obama:

also, we need to establish the difference between rap status and being a feared rapper on here. nas & prodigy were never looked at as feared mcs. ESPECIALLY IN 2001.

I remember either Stretch or Bobbito saying Big L and Jay already battled before the 10 minute freestyle classic one time in Harlem and they already knew of each other and they crews....he might of turned down battles once he got succesful but Jay ain't the first succesful nikka to bypass a battle...alotta those old legends went around actin they wuznt throwin obvious subliminals at each other the Kanes, rakims, krs, biggie, cube etc...but Jay put in work before he got succesful and sum even afterwards even tho mostly subliminal....u can't say he wuz duckin nikkas like Big L when he wuz battlin nikkas like Big L live lol.

And far as that freestyle I gained a lot of respect for Jay in that,it wuznt even a battle but I will say it sounded lik Big L came prepared and from what I remember it sounded like Jayz wuz truly "freestyling" off the top...none of those memorized rhymes he came with once he got on and got popular....don't see how he hasn't done enuff to prove himself in the field...he's battled big names live and on wax

youre trying to combine 2 different worlds & scenarios. i guarantee you that jay would want no parts of big l if they were to have a beef which called for diss tracks to be made.

everybody throws jabs. but sometimes there comes a point where you just have to battle. jay SHOULDVE battled jada. instead he had beans fighting his wars.

just like when he had to battle cam and there was no state prop to run behind, he threw money at tru life and them and gave him a "record deal". thats how pathetic dude is.:aicmon:

If you guys remember the Jadakiss vs Jay-Z thing was about who was the hotter artist, not so much "who is nicer". Jada was making his big commercial solo artist push at the time.
But Jay hopped on the remix of two R&B joints that Jada was on originally and blew them up again (Mya's "Best of Me" & R. Kelly's "Fiesta") so Jada kinda fell back after that. Jay is real strategic, there's no way he didn't know that Jada had been featured on the original versions.

Why would Jay be scared of Kiss? But not be scared of Prodigy & Nas?

But yea dat was a classic battle. Sigel won barely to me. Only because that damn line on Foxy's 2nd album which came back to bite him in the azz.
Nas was looked at in 00/01 like he fell off, pretty much the same with Prodigy. On the other hand, Jada was probably the hottest rapper out in the streets once he dropped that blood pressure solo joint on We Are the Streets. He was looked at by a lot of cats as the next big rapper on that Jay/Big level (he's not though).Jay didn't wanna go against the street fanbase he had.

Cam and Jada would have been great. Jada making pink jokes and Cam making turtle jokes :ohlawd:

:scusthov:

take that chit back to st0rmfr0nt fakkit

:pacspit:

yea, i spent countless hours back then arguing about these battles back then. wherever i was and who i was with. whether it was in school, the streets, the courts, the lunchroom. that chit dominated lives. i miss my hip-hop.:to:

whats funny is that all these battles along with the mixtape djs and all the great mixtapes blinded us from the fact that 2001 was a weak year for albums. the fact that beans & jada, along with dj clue were at the forefront in carrying that year to legendary status, is enough reason alone to put them in the hall of fame.

2002's album selection couldve been better as well. these dudes enhanced that era. whats crazy is that the state p/major figgas beef was just as epic and state p carried both beefs at the same dam time.

Violent disses ain't all I heard but that's the only think of that Jay lacked that would allow u to believe he wuznt on they level far as battling even after hearing Takeover and yes Superugly wuz nice too....y'all on that bullshyt actin like Takeover wuznt :krs: as it wuz....then turn around and act like them weak Camron disses wuz just sumthing Jay haaad to respond too:laff:...Jada wuz just sum chump cryin about Jay crushing remixes after him,he wuznt on Jays level of success...u heard the strategy on the record "leave it up to Hov to X out Tommy Bunz"...u think Jay wuz concerned about X to have this line out there....X coulda made his move on Sigel or Jay after that, what happened tho y'all wuz he scared:ohhh:...nikka ain't even respond to Kurupt...y'all full of shyt wanna talk about all the dudes Jay ducked, biggest myth in rap history...Jay gotta go around battlin everybody who dissin him for no damn reason but other artist don't have to?

lol @ kurupt.

lol @ super-ugly.:aicmon::aicmon: and im stressing that smiley for a reason. jay was so desperate on that track that he lost a friend/associate and still lost the battle.

homie, its not about jay lacking violent threats because he talks that gun chit too in his disses. that has nothing to do with anything. and its pointless even going back n forth about this seeing that jay himself knows that he doesnt stack up to the elite in this category.

Y'all trippin talkin bout Jay ain't want no parts....Nas ain't built for the long haul but u heard Takeover and Superugly....Jays battle concepts consistently the most clever probaly since Ice Cube.....he woulda had his way with these nikkas....wish he woulda participated, but u dudes probaly woulda said Lox won cuz they wuz underdogs so he did the right thing...underdog always got the advantage in battles

beans even said before that jay didn't want that.

All i want to know is the line about a dead bytch in a Rocawear coat real or just myth.
Fake. It was actually jadakiss that dissed aaliyah he said "This is a mans world, yall keep fukkin with kiss I see to it you visit ya man's girl" and that got blanked out. That somehow evolved to people saying styles p said that "dead bytch in a rocawear" coat shyt.

Ai my nikka but that line wuz to perfect to pass up:laff:...and how on earth can u laugh at Kurupt sayin fukk dmx,fuk nas,fuk Belly:laff: and them nikkas not responding, but expect Jay to jump out and diss dmx over a damn subliminal about shooting imaginary crowns off:childplease:...smh at actin like Kurupt ain't shyt but Camron and Jadkiss is superstars....its a reason DJ Clue and R Kelly asked Jay to get on those remixes after Jada....but yea we won't agree on this one bro:manny:
