I remember either Stretch or Bobbito saying Big L and Jay already battled before the 10 minute freestyle classic one time in Harlem and they already knew of each other and they crews....he might of turned down battles once he got succesful but Jay ain't the first succesful nikka to bypass a battle...alotta those old legends went around actin they wuznt throwin obvious subliminals at each other the Kanes, rakims, krs, biggie, cube etc...but Jay put in work before he got succesful and sum even afterwards even tho mostly subliminal....u can't say he wuz duckin nikkas like Big L when he wuz battlin nikkas like Big L live lol.
And far as that freestyle I gained a lot of respect for Jay in that,it wuznt even a battle but I will say it sounded lik Big L came prepared and from what I remember it sounded like Jayz wuz truly "freestyling" off the top...none of those memorized rhymes he came with once he got on and got popular....don't see how he hasn't done enuff to prove himself in the field...he's battled big names live and on wax
Nas was looked at in 00/01 like he fell off, pretty much the same with Prodigy. On the other hand, Jada was probably the hottest rapper out in the streets once he dropped that blood pressure solo joint on We Are the Streets. He was looked at by a lot of cats as the next big rapper on that Jay/Big level (he's not though).Jay didn't wanna go against the street fanbase he had.Why would Jay be scared of Kiss? But not be scared of Prodigy & Nas?
But yea dat was a classic battle. Sigel won barely to me. Only because that damn line on Foxy's 2nd album which came back to bite him in the azz.
Only in nyggerland is two guys discussing trying to tear each other down considered good for the culture. SMH
yeah, hard R
I remember being like when these disses were going on. As a kid, these battles felt epic and I was like following.
jay got niccas fooled. i gotta give it to him. that man is a genius.
also, we need to establish the difference between rap status and being a feared rapper on here. nas & prodigy were never looked at as feared mcs. ESPECIALLY IN 2001.
youre trying to combine 2 different worlds & scenarios. i guarantee you that jay would want no parts of big l if they were to have a beef which called for diss tracks to be made.
everybody throws jabs. but sometimes there comes a point where you just have to battle. jay SHOULDVE battled jada. instead he had beans fighting his wars.
just like when he had to battle cam and there was no state prop to run behind, he threw money at tru life and them and gave him a "record deal". thats how pathetic dude is.
Y'all trippin talkin bout Jay ain't want no parts....Nas ain't built for the long haul but u heard Takeover and Superugly....Jays battle concepts consistently the most clever probaly since Ice Cube.....he woulda had his way with these nikkas....wish he woulda participated, but u dudes probaly woulda said Lox won cuz they wuz underdogs so he did the right thing...underdog always got the advantage in battles
Fake. It was actually jadakiss that dissed aaliyah he said "This is a mans world, yall keep fukkin with kiss I see to it you visit ya man's girl" and that got blanked out. That somehow evolved to people saying styles p said that "dead bytch in a rocawear" coat shyt. All i want to know is the line about a dead bytch in a Rocawear coat real or just myth.
lol @ kurupt.
lol @ super-ugly. and im stressing that smiley for a reason. jay was so desperate on that track that he lost a friend/associate and still lost the battle.
homie, its not about jay lacking violent threats because he talks that gun chit too in his disses. that has nothing to do with anything. and its pointless even going back n forth about this seeing that jay himself knows that he doesnt stack up to the elite in this category.
