Be honest, do you think Microsoft will make another console?

What’s surprising is he doesn't seem interested in fighting to further his own platform. There’s a difference between being on Android and iOS vs having your own platform you own, you make the rules for, and you control. Same with being on Sony and Nintendo’s platforms vs their own.

They can’t even begin to sell Xbox if they don’t create reasons for people to want to buy it. If they continue putting all their games on any platform that will have them then people will just buy Xbox games on platforms they already own.

He can admit he gave up on Windows Mobile too early and is upset he has to play by Google and Apples rules and give them 30% or more on their app stores but he’s moving Xbox in a direction that will repeat those mistakes in gaming.

There’s nothing he can do to revive xbox consoles that make financial sense. the only thing he could do is make everything exclusive to the console, kill gamepass pc, try to figure out how to make COD exclusive, etc.

it would cost them way too much money to make the box more appealing and to Microsoft hardware has never been their priority. They are a software company, they are betting everything on cloud and AI. They stand to make more money going the tencent direction than continuing to mimic sony or Nintendo

Also, the way Microsoft distributes their products in other regions outside the US kind of makes the whole idea unrealistic. The US alone isn’t enough to sustain their hardware business and they do little to market or make their products appealing outside north america

TYRONE GA!
it sounds crazy to say but whats the path forward for them when they probably won’t ship 40m consoles this generation and 20m next gen?
You know they wanna raise the price of GP Gamepass badly but know PC cats would revolt and cancel altogether😂😂😂😂

I don’t even think they would “revolt” they’d just continue to be indifferent toward it. They’ve already made it loud and clear outside of specific launchers for certain games steam is the dominate platform and marketplace for pc and nothing is gonna change that

If Sony can bounce back from PS3, Microsoft can bounce back from this
Anything is possible, but they need to sack and Phil and the rest of the bozos. Microsoft gaming can't move forward with Phil in charge. He had 10 years and he cratered the brand. This gen was the perfect gen to rebound because Sony hasn't been the strongest with their first party output. However, it all doesn't matter because Microsoft and Phil failed to deliver on marketing and making platform appealing to people across the globe

There was stuff that could have been done. Nadella could have taken that $75 billion (far less in fact) and given it to the Xbox team to invest in content Xbox creates and own vs buying Activision Blizzard. The same way they came about Halo and Gears. If you look at the list of franchises Microsoft had offers for exclusive rights to and passed on it contains stuff like Spider-Man and Grand Theft Auto.

What if owning abk makes their gaming division continue to make sense to Microsoft proper?

Without activision what are they really doing, look at their revenue sans abk. They bought zenimax and that has yielded almost zero impact on their financials.

either way the hardware was always gonna die. With abk they survive as a gaming division forever
