No, if they could do would doing what is their teaching as a PROFESSION not teaching it

If he to enter a fighter in a tournament to save your life, would you choose a boxing trainer or a world boxing champion

People teach because they never made it or they are retired, past their prime
This is so far form the truth it's unreal. How you gonna have a name like Master Teacher and post this?
I'll admit you might have a point for lower level education but in a lot of high schools and most reputable colleges teachers are respected individuals in their fields and teach with the wealth of experience they've gained from actually doing the profession. We not even talking about people who take on apprentices and the like.

And i'd take the teacher. Being a champ doesn't mean you know how to teach bruh. Come on.

Steph is relevant right now though fam. It's social commentary. The larger meaning applies to everyone. :heh:

And :dahell: You serious? Any productive member of society can talk to them. Especially one who didnt grow up with a silver spoon as it means more and shows them it's possible. Athlete's would be fine too if 99.9% of them didn't have things out of their control such as genetics working for them. Look at most communities. Ballers and entertainers are not who young black men and women should be aspiring to be. What about our scientists, professionals in healthcare and industry, etc. Seeing young doctors that look like you can have a string effect on a young mind, just as seeing your favorite sports hero.

But a lot of them have great upbringing which means they're unqualified cause the kids can't relate. The chances of these kids becoming a Dr. are slim as fukk too.
In this teacher's eyes the only people who should talk to his students are the ones who came from the bottom cause their situation is the same as the kids.
This dude has a "beef" with Steph because his father provided him with opportunity.

Another thing. If you ask a bunch of 3rd graders what they want to be. They might say an NBA player a NFL player. But by the time high school rolls around unless that kid is already playing ball for the school, he prob has moved on from that notion. You add up freshman, jv, varsity bball squad at most that's less than 100 kids out of maybe 2,000 in a high school. And of those 100 players many of them Dont realistically dream of going pro. This teacher is acting like the entire black population of his school is tryna be a pro baller

And Its low key racist to assume every young black person wants to be an NBA player, anyway.

Teacher should be fired. :yeshrug:
And that every young black girl wants to be Beyonce, don't forget.

This is one of those, good message but god awfully delivered pieces that's gonna do more harm than good.

She sure as hell aint asking Jeff from Hunters Point who works for BART to come in and tell them kids they need to realize they're probably never going to be anything more than average......simply cause that's more in tune with the truth.

Good point. Im glad you brought it up. Thats why I mentioned that it would be BETTER if someone that came from their situation talked to them. Its a game of numbers. Becoming a doctor is infinitely more attainable than getting into the NBA, NFL, etc. In fact, the number of doctors from the same situations they grew up in is higher than you think. It is hard, but very possible especially with the right mentors in high school and college. The first thing many kids have to do is break that barrier telling them that they can't become these professions. There is something wring when you have kids that think its easier to be a ball player than a healthcare professional. (there are other professions of course but we are using doctor as a standard for the convo). As far as the dude's beef, I don't think it's a real beef...it's just to add depth to his piece.

The first quip with Steph...was that he comes from privilege and had parents who gave a fukk about him......which implies that his kids are poor ( probably correct) and he feels their parents don't care about them ( highly unlikely).

Once again a boxer can learn more for sparring Floyd Mayweather than listening to Freddie Roach recycle basic boxing techniques you've been doing since a kid

application from a perspective of a DO-ER, it's more valuable than any text book material

It's like when I learned how to audio engineer at full sail, guys done worked one thriller outkast albums and all that shyt, but they were washed up, their techniques and what they did isn't in practice anymore that's why their teaching

it wasn't until I worked in a real studio with an active engineer were I learned how to APPLY the information I had in real time
so I could've skipped all that and just been taught by the active professional

Only few colleges like Technical schools have people in there who really do what they teach

besides

Medical school is the only school were you learn something you can put into application

High School in itself is a waste of time, only good thing about is for social purposes, which can actually hinder a child's growth as well
and he can be easily replaced with creative production activities outside of the school system

90 percent of the universities in this country are useless, most people get trained on the job,
which is why kanye west and P. Diddy can get honorary degrees, not for being scholars, but for being successful

I see what you saying. But it's up to the student to apply themselves with what the teacher has taught them. IT's like that everywhere. I also want to point out that Med school is definitely not the only place you learn something and it gets applied in the real world...but even they have to practice the thigns they learn from teachers to become able to earn that degree.

But he's taking shot at Steph while sayin this. Basically saying he was born with a golden spoon in his mouth. Steph seems like he has a great work ethtic

This article was smug, pretentious, and made a great deal of assumptions. 1st off, he called Dell Curry an NBA great which tells me he hasn't done enough research into Stephs background. He also assumes Steph always had top trainers at hand 24/7. By this simple ass logic, Michael Jordans kids should be tearing up the league now. Doesn't matter who your father is, how much $ dad has, the work still has to be put in. The talent (if there) has to be developed. I've been to a few Bball camps in my day and have heard a few pros give speeches at them. In my experience NONE of them have ever encouraged hoop dreams. They always talked about life in general. One time Rolando Blackman (Google him if unfamiliar) put it down something serious about how chances of going pro are slim. In this letter this teacher describes his students as children from low income families with poor nutrition and poor study habits. Yet he finds it disingenuous for a Stephen Curry to visit his school but not a lawyer or doctor? Are these students receiving an education that prepares them for law or med school? Are there mentoring programs and internships available to encourage exploring these fields? This teacher probably teaches english lit or creative writing or something to that effect. This letter gets no attention sent to an attorney or hospital chief of staff. Pro athlete tho?? :gladbron: This will garner attention for the upcoming blog or podcasting opportunity it will likely generate. It was well written.
Agreed. The teacher is an attention whore who probably trying to get a blog or podcast.

His general point no would disagree with but the assumptions about Steph Curry's life wasn't necessary. He could have had made same point speaking on a more general term.

Just because Curry comes from a well off two parent household that negates anything he does in life or any problems he's had??
