So what's you guys opinion on why it didn't hit a billi?

I think all the negative and unwarranted criticism in some aspects before the movie came out really killed some of the casual fans spirits

It's basic movie math. If it cost a total of $400 million than the movie will have to double that to break even.

Here's a link though:
‘Batman V Superman’ Super Tuesday: Superhero Smackdown Flies Past $500M Worldwide

"As we reported on Monday, for BvS to turn a profit in its theatrical release alone (before any ancillaries), the film would need to make between $925M-$930M worldwide."

Most of the profits will come from the home video release and other merchandise.

Okay. I see how the math works.

Gross: $800M (assuming)
Production: - $250M
Marketing: -$150M
Distribution -$400M (50% of gross to pay distributors, movie houses etc)

= Break Even: $400M

But by this math, very few movies make a "profit" before home video, merchandising etc. You basically have to make double your production budget plus marketing to see a profit.

I don't think you understand what inflation is :mjlol:

actually i do, just dont use it as an easy out when talking about different eras/time periods...to use inflation means you're saying everything else is exactly the same, the only thing different is the money, when we know that's not the case.....but whatever, nice try at being funny...

3 biggest factors to me:

1 .the negative press the movie got...

2. wb coming out before the movie dropped and saying the blu-ray would be a different rating and 30 mins longer/'the complete movie'..that was fukking dumb....they pretty much told people the movie in the theaters wasnt the complete movie and to just wait till blu-ray to see the whole movie....you dont say shyt like that till after the movie been in theaters a couple weeks....

3. it kinda ties in to number 1: the label that this wasnt a 'family/kid' movie....people joke, complain, whatever about movies being for kids, but studios do that cause they know kids are the key to a lot of money...once a movie gets the label of not being for a kid, there goes money out the window...that happened to this....an example of the opposite: deadpool....people were taking their kids to see that cause even though it didnt get the 'family/kid' label, it got the other another label that is associated with those movies 'a fun superhero movie' and it was marketed as such....i saw plenty of kids in the theater with their parents, but after the first 5-10 mins, those families were getting up and leaving cause it wasnt like the 'fun, superhero' movies they were used too...but at that point, the studios dont care, they got the money...

No, the fact that an R rated movie made more domestically than BVS should be alarming as hell to the execs at WB. We're talking about a C - D list chracter in Deadpool with a 53 million dollar budget making more money than a movie featuring Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. That's a massive issue.

shut up dummy.. Deadpool came out on fox and OUTGROSSED a lot of marvel movies, stop being a dikk sucker

Iron man 3 and avengers 2 don't deserve those spots

:francis: I'm mad I actually contributed to Ironman 3 making that amount. Worst comic movie I've seen and I'm including Wolverine Origins screener that leaked. Not that they haven't made some good movies afterwards but I don't think I've been back to see a Disney Marvel movie in theaters since.

On paper yes. But in reality Hollywood inflates often inflates budgets so they can report a lower net profit (or even a net loss) which means they don't have to pay out any money for services agreed upon being paid based on net points (a percentage of the net profit). Add numerous fees and subsidies the studio receives as well as product placement money (just think of the "official sponsorship" Turkish Airlines had in the case of BvS which put millions in the pockets of WB) and studios make far more money than they officially disclose.

The critical reception and WOM, if the movie was decent it would have made an easy 1.5 bill but since it wasn't..... well here we are :manny:

The suits didn't expect for a live action movie starring batman and superman for the first time to hit 900 million, this is a massive success :troll:

The two most popular comic heroes in American history definitely weren't expected to do much more than 800 million :troll:

The suits at DC/WB are definitely popping the champagne over this :troll:

What a fukkin time. I have to salute Marvel for this, they really made a bunch of D list characters more relevant than a combo of fukkin batman and superman :wow: what a fukkin time brehs

What a fukkin time :wow:
That's the craziest thing. Iron-Man was definitely low on the super hero totem pole and Captain America was fukking AQUAMAN tier. A complete punchline. Yet they got DC shook

case in point the star wars prequels did good numbers but the star wars sequel did GREAT numbers. same iconic brand but the difference was in quality and presentation.

if the avengers can do 1.5 bil then a great world's finest movie might have been capable of 2 bil.
