There is literally no physical feat a soccer player can do that a basketball player. This is the point that dudes are trying to make. Skill is no question soccer. But athleticism is without question basketball. There are however some great athletes in soccer though. And people confusing endurance with athleticism are really annoying. They are not even two sides of the same coin, technically speaking they are two entirely different coins.

Soccer is a more skilled sport. Period. MLB pitchers or golfers are the MOST skilled sports. NFL football players are the most athletic. Goalkeepers (hockey/soccer) is tied for most difficult with pitcher. Followed by QB then point guard/cornerback.

Average midfielders run about 5 to 7 miles in a 90 minute match.

Having played random soccer matches with Mexicans and Nigerians when I was younger AND playing full court hoops with brehs, basketball feels more challenging in terms of testing stamina.....assuming you actually try to play defense.

In soccer if you're playing your position and not just chasing the ball, there's more time to walk and catch your breath. Of course if you've never run more than 3 miles non stop...could be a challenge.

Soccer is harder overall though. The talent pool is so much bigger since you could be 5'4" (Diego Maradona), 5'7" (Lionel Messi), 5'8" (Pele).....or 6'1" (Cristiano Ronaldo), 6'2" (Thierry Henry) and 6'5" (Zlatan Ibrahimovic). The whole damn world plays it and the next great striker or playmaking center back could come from anywhere.

Skill is soccer. It's a game of inches, and athleticism is not nearly enough to be good. Speed and strength will only get you so far
Basketball. The athletic feats that some of those guys can do at their size and weight is incredible.

not a soccer hater but how does it take more skill than basketball? anyone off the street can go out on a field and kick a soccer ball with an empty goal into the goal from 20 feet away. a random person off the street won't be able to shoot a hoop from 20 feet away unguarded. unless they hoop

No they cant.

Even learning how to properly strike the ball with your foot takes a good amount of practice.
And soccer has goalies so you're going to have to aim that kick.

Have you ever seen someone who doesn't play soccer kick a ball?

Toe pokes with 0 accuracy

Black people always get the "he's a raw athlete " " he's a beast" . White guys get "cerebral, skillful " tag.

I think its plausible to say if racial dynamics were reversed we would get alot more people saying basketball is more skillfull.

I see what you're saying as far as the NBA goes I've def noticed that, but in soccer both of those get thrown around regardless of skin color

And extreme height
Here's the other thing people dont realize when comparing soccer to basketball.

People watch MJ and dont realize he's 6'6 how smoothly and aggressively he moves laterally and changing directions.

It takes an elite athlete with skill to beat his defender , or at least create space to attempt a shot.

In addition you have less real estate and 9 other huge athletic human beings taking up space.
