Pretty hype for this. Liked Hamm in Baby Driver, I think he's found his big screen niche. Also intrigued to see Hemsworth sans Thor or that Ghostbuster movie

This didn't really work for me. There were definitely parts that were intriguing and intense. I'm not gonna say it wasn't entertaining at all because sometimes it was, but overall as a story, it ultimately fell flat and played like a Tarantino knock-off. What worked were some of the characters and their development, particularly the ones played by Jeff Bridges and Cynthia Erivo. Most of the other characters didn't work or even make much sense. By the time Chris Hemsworth shows up, it's already off the rails and only gets more ridiculous. It just felt like a bunch of build-up to nothing. I was expecting a grand reveal or at least more of a payoff for all of the duplicity and teasing. I'm also not sure what to make of Chris Hemsworth as a villain. His performance felt more campy than something really sinister, so I think that's a fail. This is the second non-Avengers movie featuring one of the Avengers actors that has me worried about how these guys are gonna do post-Marvel. Anyway, I think Cynthia Erivo will have a promising career. Outside of that, I don't think this was worth the price of admission, but it's definitely interesting enough to watch on Netflix or TV when it comes on.

I give it a 6 out of 10?:ld:

Hemsworth is not a good actor, he gets by on Thor and abs and he has charisma but apart from that the man cannot act. It’s Hollywood so he will get by on what does work for him. After Marvel though a lot of these actors are going to struggle to get roles that are a hit.

Perfect summation. Feel exactly the same on all fronts. Movie was about a half hour too long. It was shot well, and the acting was great. But the twists weren’t really twists and the pay off wasn’t worth the long ass wait. Cynthia is gonna be a star. All the people mad about her playing Harriet Tubman are gonna look stupid. Soundtrack is the best part of the movie by far.

This is an excruciatingly bad movie. I walked out at the 1:50 mark, and thankfully so, it had 30 more minutes left. I may expand later, but from Drew Goddard, who I wasn't even aware directed this, I thought it would be in the range of "The Cabin In The Woods", which I thought was brilliant. This was near unwatchable. I could tell about 10 minutes in. I may expand later, I came home in time for Seinfeld at 11, and I couldn't be happier about my choice.

I thought it was good up until the point Chris Hemsworth's character comes in and his utterly flat and empty performance brings the whole thing down. This seriously might go down as the worst miscasting of this century, dude emoted nothing and his character was supposed to be the centerpiece villain.

Up until his entrance this could at least pass as a solid genre flick, but once he takes stage he drags the whole thing down. What a fukking embarrasment.

There was no tension, the pacing was disastrous, the writing was subpar, and the actors never managed to get ahold of the material, though I think the singer did an admirable job.

I had no issues with Hemsworth, it was all just so sterile, and forced. It isn't a takedown of the post Tarantino 90's, it isn't a satire, it is simply an imitation, served up for no real purpose other than the directors apparent fetish vanity project. I love "10 Little Indian" movies, the issue here is, there is no real mystery or suspense to anything. Almost everything is apparent from the beginning, and lest I forget the awful, stop and start direction.

I am shocked almost, by the positive reviews from top critics, maybe I shouldn't be. I just can't see what anyone would see in this. It isn't funny. It isn't moving. It isn't well written. It isn't suspenseful. I see the potential, with the setting, and the concept, but it falls apart minutes into the movie. There is never a sense of creating a believable world for these characters to inhabit.
