I know who they are. :pachaha: I told you, I've been to Brazil twice. When I went to the favela the owners of the place were Amigos Dos Amigos, ADA. They control Rochinha in Rio. I dont know if they still do, but at the time they did. PCC still runs Sao Paulo tho. :obama:

The term Chicano Oldies is not trying to say Chicanos created soul music, It's a term to describe the Chicano experience, especially in California. These songs are a part of the soundtrack to many Chicanos lives. You'll see Grandpas and kids as young as 5 listening to these songs and keep this music alive. A lot of black kids who are not from California are complete squares when it comes to this music and will only learn about it if some shytty rapper samples a song. It's like the term "West Coast Funk", a lot of those funk jams come from bands from Ohio, NY/NJ etc., but that sound is associated with California. It's like White Boys from England listening to Motown and calling it "Northern Soul".

It's not just Oldies. Growing up in Cali you would hear Funk, Hardcore Punk, Heavy Metal, Freestyle, Alternative, House etc.. In L.A. you will see dudes with Gang Tattoos on their face and they'll be bumping Morrissey songs, that doesn't mean their trying to be white boys from Manchester. Music is Music.

Maybe if a bunch of black folks started listening to that and this went on for generations and became a part of the culture, then it would make sense.

And again, oldies/soul/doo-wop/motown whatever you want to call it wasn't only made by black folks. Anyone that made that music is considered that genre and its called Chicano because thats who listens to it. I dont think its Mexican moms and dads over here lying to their kids telling them "ay wey you know all this music was made by Chicanos?"

it dosent matter if other races joined in doo wop etc.. they didn't create it the music is BLACK culture I don't see anyone calling songs by the Beatles chicano oldies because they know cacs would eat them alive for it. CALLING IT CHICANO OLDIES IS IMPLYING ITS CHICANO MUSIC WHICH ITS NOT!!! be more original and quit trying to hijack our shyt!!! I know our music is awesome but have some respect for other peoples culture

I already explained why its called Chicano Oldies. Thats like a series of mixtapes, its not like thats the name of a genre or anything :heh:

First you complain why dont they "steal" songs by white people. After you learn that some of those "Chicano Oldies" are songs by white people, you get mad and say it doesnt matter cause it was black music? :what: That also makes your Beatles comparison dumb because they were influenced by Black artists as well and Rock and Roll was "black music" so...

Nvm...

they were influenced by Black artists as well and Rock and Roll was "black music" so...(Your quote)

IM saying that they gave CREDIT to the people who made the genre they didn't call it British oldies because of all the brits that were involved in the genre

I said that because you cited the Beatles as an example of "white music" that Mexicans would never try to label as "Chicano Oldies" because you think they'd never get away with it. My point is even if they did it would be the same thing.

This!

Just wanna add, the "chicanos" that listen to oldies, drive bombs (40s-50s chevys), and have a passion for 40s-50-60s culture are a different breed than the "eses" on that sureno (south cali)/norte (northen cali) gang bang shyt.

Every time I've been out west, oldies, funk, old school hip hop was the soundtrack cruising or at bbq's/picnics.
