Well that's the beauty of opinion and discussion. I thin it's an extremely well done flick, with a good message, great performances, well directed and well written. Now most of us know its probably not going to win but to say it's just a good oscar bait film feels a touch disrespectful towards it. Obviously thats your opinion though and I'm not going to change it or even try to. I just disagree. Let's not act like the movie is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close though in terms of quality or deserving props
For sure, and I think the film is good. I just think that such a late entry should not get consideration like this. It just seems unfair to me.

They released it before the cut off date. It happens every year. It got a limited release for Christmas, just like Selma, and got in. They did the same thing with Argo and live by night. I don't see that as unfair at all if it's well within the rules

True but I feel like if this is the route they were going, then Loving should have been the pick, although from what I am hearing it ran out of steam after the film festivals ended. Oh well. Seems like they're being conscious to media criticism.

Also there's nothing wrong with crowd pleasers getting recognition. It's happened several times in the past and will continue. It's a box office hit, it's important, it's got great performances, and it's topical. All those factors normally lead to a nod.
