Beautiful looking movie, amazing CGI & cinematography. I didn't like it. The writing was trite and the entire time it felt like white people cosplaying indigenous people using blue paint. It just felt icky and weirdly still like a white savior movie. Maybe it's just not my thing. 5/10.

Also noticed that this movie and black panther 2 have the same "water people" theme. No wonder i was having a "have I seen this before" moment during those undewater scenes

Beautiful film. The 3rd act saves this film from being mediocre.

Marvel fans saying this flopped lol

:ahh: the box office juelzing Is happening again. They'll be saying this film will need to hit 800 mil to break even. After we reach a billion, they start acting the story, calling him a hack and go silent until the next film.

Why do ppl keep doubting JC:pachaha:

As much of a James Cameron fan I am this movie was :francis:. Just like the first one movie was mediocre. Story was weak but the visuals were amazing even though some scenes looked weird. Movie was mostly spectacle with little substance that never grabbed my attention until the last act. I give this movie a 5/10.

i need to watch it again. on first viewing it was ok - good, definitely not great but that might change if i watch it again.

more sci-fi tech might have helped. also main-bad-guy-navi's head looked a bit weird to me. not sure why.

the last part of act three (as everyone says) was good although some decisions/events seemed a little contrived.

also letting something happen once is bad enough but having the exact same thing happen again might be asking too much from the audience.

i also found that this second film was missing some of the wonder and frivolity of the first film. in some ways it feels like a reboot, while not being a reboot.

like in back to the future, there are things added in to build out the character which were not at all present in the first film.

i.e. the "don't call me a coward" thread

more should have been made of the difficulties of mixed species living together. the limitations of being human.

"everything on pandora wants to kill you (especially humans)" said the toughest human in the first film ...

so far 5.5/10 possibly higher on rewatch.

The biggest complaint from critics is the simplicity of the plot.
In my opinion it's a lot of complex and dense things going on amongst the characters
It's common knowledge at this point that Cameron is not good when it comes to dialogue and plot. It worked for Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss and T2

The first avatar didn’t do crazy opening weekend numbers, it was its longevity that made it crazy money, weekend after weekend with little drop.
The opening weekend of the first one didn't do hot because of the Eastern blizzard that hit that weekend, the second weekend is where it made the big numbers

Visually this is breathtaking. Story wise it’s meh imo. I almost feel the same way I felt after the first one where I’m like visually this is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. The story still isn’t anything to write home about and I will probably forget about this once Quantumania comes out. I still would recommend seeing it though simply for the experience.

Nah you're correct.

Scripts fell off a fukking cliff years ago if we're talking big budget films in the states. Same exact themes, just a different setting they're hoping distracts you enough you forget that you've already seen this movie before. If you ever run into writers just shooting the shyt you'd prolly lose respect for the process cuz it's normal as hell to bite and just tweak surface level stuff

I remember blowing someone's mind telling them how Logan is literally just Man on Fire in the xmen universe :mjlol: nikka hated me for weeks!
