Ava Duvernay to direct DC’s New Gods

I love myself some New Gods but I have no idea why WB thinks this is marketable or why Ava is the right director for this.

The Fourth World is about as Kirby as Jack Kirby could get and that's not something you can just put everybody on. In fact, this is like the third feature on WB's superhero slate that feels like it would be better to hand it over to George Miller.

Well apparently WB has been playing with the idea of making a New Gods animated movie since Iron Giant but made Osmosis Jones instead. I guess now with the DCEU they figure why not go back and try it again but in live action




I would hate to see WB sell DC. It could negatively effect the toys, animation, and most importantly the comics.

WB should put out a press release explaining, in detail, the rights situation with Milestone so nikkas will finally fall back about Static.

Supposedly McDuffie's Wife & WB are in a legal dispute over Milestone

I would be excited for this but WB keeps announcing all these films but none are even close to production. They've announced Green Lantern Corps, Gotham City Sirens, The Joker, Batgirl, Nightwing, and The Batman but most don't even have a script, directors, etc.

Problem is that people believe that WB are the ones announcing these movies, they're not. Agents & Producers leak info to trades like Variety which is why all these announcements have a disclaimer like "WB couldn't be reached for comment". Studios don't announce anything until they're weeks away from filming.

I remember way back on superherohype boards people wanted Michael Clarke Duncan to be cast as all the big bads like Apacalypse, Thanos, and Darkseid. I was pissed Sony made Apacalypse a cac (or nonblack), and I always envisioned Darkseid as a black man. Tony Todd (Candyman) voiced him in one animated movie. I beleive he needs someone with good acting chops who is on Brolin’s level or better. Someone who has a commanding presence on screen. His voice needs to be done by someone dark, I believe only a black man can pull it off.

I know. That's what I'm referring to. A lot of people seem to think DC owns Static outright and don't understand that he and the Milestone characters are liscensed through Milestone Media, which can't happen right now because of the lawsuit. So every time they announce something like, say, Black Lightning, Static fans not in the know start getting pissy despite the issue kind of being out of DC's hands.
