I wanna fukk Ava DuVernay
No matter the nitpicks I have with Coogler, we're blessed that he got the job.
You're not missing much. Coates had a 5-6 issue stretch where BP seemed to get the estrogen out his system... but he's back to being a do-nothing punk.
BP/Storm goes like this:
-Storm does all the heroic shyt, saving the day, inspiring Wakandans, etc.
-BP sits around getting called a bytchass nykka by all his dead relatives.
Probably what Ava's movie would've been like (sub Storm with Doras)
Fortunately sales bombed so badly now that Coates is leaving the book after one more issue or two.
Evan Narcisse mini is the only one I'd recommend.
Like brehs, you can like the Black Panther we got and still show love to a woman who gave us When They See Us and Selma. Is it such a reflex for some of you to assume black men are being attacked, that you forget the person you're disparaging is known for highlighting both the strength of the black male as well as the plight of the black male?Do any successful black women get elevated on the coli , Queen sugar is the best black show on tv right now.

But this is what basically happened under Coogler Coogler is also good friends with Coates and liked his take on BP.
T'Challa was overshadowed in his own film, by his whole supporting cast. A lot of people were calling Okoye the true badass, people wanted Shuri to take the mantle, people were siding with Killmonger and calling BP a c00n.etc
I did like the film a lot the first year of release, but since then my opinion on it has simmered a bit. I think it could have been executed a bit better at least as a superhero film. Still one my top MCU films tho.
I would have been fine with Duvernay in all honesty. She's a competent filmmaker. People bring up Wrinkle in Time, but that's one of the hardest stories to adapt for screen. Her filmography going into her first MCU film would have been better than the Russos who's major film before Winter Soldier was You, Me and Dupree
We'll never know, but I think slamming her for one bad movie that was crazy hard to adapt, and probably shouldn't have been in the first place, when she's obviously focused on lifting black people, especially black men up, is kinda wack and disengenous.Notice you didn't mention the movie she did instead. A Wrinkle in Time. I didn't see it, but I also have no desire to either. lol
Would it have had the best African Diaspora theme in a movie? Probably not.
Ava woulda had Shuri swirling with that one Cac who didn't understand Wakanda tech
He has the talent to do so but, more importantly, he has the power and studio backing to make another, better blassic.
The nuances of Coogler's BP and Coates's BP are night and day tho. A shining supporting cast rallying around BP vs a cast that is trying to shine without him/to his detriment. Any miscalculations to the former are easier to adjust imo*.
When they asked Coogler how much Coates BP influenced the film, he said he never read it until after they were well into filming. He did say he appreciated Coates take, tho it wasn't the type of story they'd use for an MCU movie.
I have issues with Coogler's execution as well but I'll take what he delivered 10 out of 10 times given all the pressure and expectations.
*Now that sequel, I ain't giving Coogler leeway for shyt. Nygga better address all my grievances
The general sentiment is it all worked out for the best, that's not a slam on her. BP is a really good movie despite your complaints and would be hard to top no matter who you replaced Coogler with. We'll never know, but I think slamming her for one bad movie that was crazy hard to adapt, and probably shouldn't have been in the first place, when she's obviously focused on lifting black people, especially black men up, is kinda wack and disengenous.
she runs with oprahWhat are you basing that assumption on? The fact that she changed the race of the lead character in "Wrinkle of Time"? Does your brain hurt from those mental gymnastics?

Lol plus Michael B was the worst actor in the whole filmI never got how Killmonger got so much shine and so many good lines when he’s the one dying at the end and not gonna be in any sequels and nerfed the stars. The super intelligent, out for vengeance T’Challa from civil war never happened clearly
