thats one of the biggest problem of soccer in this country and part of the reason why the USMNT doesn't do well. too many of the guys (especially from the last qualifying campaign and that failed spectacularly) are soft and/or privileged. no drive, no skill, grew up playing ODP with shytty English coaches that couldn't cut it in the fourth tier league in the UK
i always thought there were so many talented immigrant and second gen brehs that never got the chance to play at a high level because of the cost and failings of the US scouting system
my brother plays at a high level (academy/US youth nat'l team) and almost all his teammates are rich privileged white kids that are trying to get scholarships for school.
in NJ, its not a white girl sport.the people with the "hunger" tend to stick to football and basketball. Soccer is typically for white girls to play. Avg black breh is playing sports that overlap with soccer season (football, b ball, track, baseball).

a few states in the US have healthy soccer cultures where its not at all uncommon to see all types of people (yes black people too) playing soccer casually, pickup, or at high levels
NJ, TX, FL, CA, NC, MD are the main ones. you'll find that most of the USMNT players come from these states
ok? no one said that. The point is in all those states you mentioned Football and Basketball all reign supreme and it isn't even close. No where in America is Soccer seen as a high priority.
That's so weird, because worldwide it's the sport of the underpriviledged. 'Cause all you really need is a ball and people can play in any type of terrain (sand, concrete, beach, patio's, etc...).
Youth Club soccer is VERY expensive. This thread is confusing me too breh. Its the cheapest sport to play.
You cant play basketball without a rim and a backboard
you can play soccer with anything.
I used to play with a volleyball and 2 sticks to mark down where the goal was.

That’s American sports culture, a strong belief in leagues and organized coaching which has a cost.

Kids are about to toss American Football in the trash. Might as well get on the bandwagon now.the people with the "hunger" tend to stick to football and basketball. I don’t think that’s soccers goal in America. Short term they trying to take baseball spot and be #3. Realistic goal and probably gonna happen. And I could see soccer fighting for one of the top spots by the time we all old and gray. Hispanics increasing they numbers plus football could very well fall off in a few decades behind CTE. It won’t be anytime soon, but I could see it playing out like that.
Soccer has been “next” in America for like 40 yearsI don’t think that’s soccers goal in America. Short term they trying to take baseball spot and be #3. Realistic goal and probably gonna happen. Soccer is the future.
That’s a good point combined with the way the current and future generations appear to be less inclined to participate in sports.kids will go to baseball before soccer. Soccer isn't for tall people and when it comes to the top athletes in the states they are usually tall (6'1+)
