The Bible was also used to free slaves and end slavery as well...

The Koran also prohibits slavery....

The problems aren't with the books, it's really the people who interpret them.
I thought that was the emancipation proclamation and the civil war at least in the us it was.

Abolitionist were the ones who campaigned for the Emancipation Proclamation...

They were the ones who engineered the underground railroad...

People like John Brown used the Bible as a justification to recruit slaves to slaughtering their white masters...

Identifying as an atheist serves no purpose but to further disconnect a person from his morals and accept his degredation. Atheists are so stupid it's so easy to convict them to go along with anything that will be terrible for humanity.

Just another brand of religious zealots

:snoop:

Yeah, for about 5 years, 200 years AFTER slaves had been in this country, and it backfired by causing slave revolts.

Only 1% of the 4 million+ African/'Black' slaves in North America were Christians until after the Civil War.

The vast majority of African/'Black' Christians became so voluntarily once they were freed from slavery, not because of it.

Also, just so you know, African slaves had rights until 1691.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Key_Grinstead

Elizabeth Key Grinstead (b. 1630 - d. c. after 1665) was the first woman of African ancestry in the North American colonies to sue for her freedom from slavery and win. Elizabeth Key won her freedom and that of her infant son John Grinstead on July 21, 1656 in the colony of Virginia. She sued based on the fact that her father was an Englishman and that she was a baptized Christian. Based on these two factors, her English attorney and common-law husband William Grinstead argued successfully that she should be freed. The lawsuit in 1655 was one of the earliest "freedom suits" by a person of African ancestry in the English colonies.

In response to Key's suit and other challenges, in 1662 the Virginia House of Burgesses passed a law that the status of children born in the colony would follow the status of the mother, "bond or free", rather than the father, as had been the precedent in English common law and was the case in England. This was the principle of partus sequitur ventrum, also called partus. The legislation hardened the boundaries of slavery by ensuring that all children of women slaves, regardless of paternity, would be kept as slaves for labor unless explicitly freed.

'White' people used the Law to justify slavery moreso than religion and continue to do so to this very day.

yeah they aren't the reason slavery ended though they fought hard for it i will give them that but if it wasn't for the civil war slavery would have continued for a long time it just would have no longer expanded.

Im on the same page with you:salute:....People say religion is a tool used to control peoples minds, well why aren't black people smart enough to use it to help themselves and promote they agenda....Im speaking of black people who promote black empowerment, upliftment, unity, black economics....religion can be used to promote all of those things and the foundation is already set up for it.

You would rather prove how smart you are ACTING as if you know god doesn't exist:mjlol:...and talk about how the white mans controlling minds with it it....When if people were really smart they would enter themselves into religion and use it to their own benefit and to control people for good:sas1:

And lowkey the bible is one cold book, when you can open it up randomly and it gives you perfect advice for the EXACT situation you going through,i gotta say:wow:...Rather you believe its real or not how could you hate:mjcry:

So far religion is often led by greedy, ego maniacs....if they were as sefless as the bible told them to be and actually cared about people the church would be a beautiful thing, and you would probaly gladly give up part of your check once you saw the progress being made.

But lets keep bumping our heads against a wall trying to unify black people all over again, even though the foundation/bluepring is already there in with religion.

"In a 1976 phone conversation with John Maher, Jones alternately stated that he was an agnostic and an atheist.[41] Despite the Temple's fear that the IRS was investigating its religious tax exemption, Marceline Jones admitted in a 1977 New York Times interview that Jones was trying to promote Marxism in the United States by mobilizing people through religion, citing Mao Zedong as his inspiration.[37] She stated that, "Jim used religion to try to get some people out of the opiate of religion," and had slammed the Bible on the table yelling "I've got to destroy this paper idol!"[37] In one sermon, Jones said that, "You're gonna help yourself, or you'll get no help! There's only one hope of glory; that's within you! Nobody's gonna come out of the sky! There's no heaven up there! We'll have to make heaven down here!"[-

Obviously Jim Jones was a lunatic:whoa:,but imagine a perfectly sane individual using religion to mobilize and empower black people....weve seen it,but not on the scale it could be taken to with like minded people networking and egos put aside:banderas:...We need church insurgents asap if you ask me....Try thinking bigger than saying "fukk church" which helps nothing actually, other than giving yourself glory and feeding your ego like you have it all figured out....sound like a lot of these pastors to me,but at least they helping somebody:scust:

They did use it as a tool

MLK JR :sas2:

He knew there was one way to get the majority of the sheep to unify and spoke through religion

When you look at the actions that made him a great man they all contradict religion more specifically the faith he used as a tool to control and unite people

Christianty condones slavery, incest, murder

Have any of you read the bible lol?

300 murders a year
the worst thing about religion

is every generation feels like they picked up a new revelation with the same bible and its tenants we have had among us for over 500 years. and every generation think the day they reside in is the "last days" and our people been hoping for the "last days" and the "return" since the 1600s when we started converting to Christianity to get rights in this land, that we would eventually lose anyway.

what it has resulted in, is the disarming and stagnation of black people and with no sense of urgency for military, economic and social community building. i mean why think as a group, build as a group, you know like every damn body else in the world, when we are convicted with this notion that some messiah coming and the world getting popped off anyway.

im a atheist if the meaning of "god" is some mystical being who has eminent control over every person and every thing. that is ridiculous. and the knowledge of said omni powerful and omni present being certainly cant be contained in the confines of 1 book, with a certain people who prescribe to said book being the only people this all powerful being will look out for or "save" all that is crazy as hell.

Umm, that's not what Christianity is and it's a difficult task to be like 'everybody else' when no other ethnic group on this planet has had their entire culture destroyed and reconfigured in the exact OPPOSITE way the rest of the world's societies operate while simultaneously being cut-off from the society of the nation they inhabit and reduced to chattels for a couple hundred years.

It's actually a testament to the resilience of 'Black' people that we still exist.
