But we live in a different time, and are privy to a lot more information than those who lived thousands of years ago. Like Sensitive Blake pointed out, we are fortunate to live during a time where, at least in the west, you can say you don't believe in god, and not fear death. Scientific theories that help explain our origins are only a few hundred years old. I think it's obvious that religion is popular because it appeals so much to one's ego... or one's guilt or fear. So maybe religion will never completely go away, but I don't think it will be as prevalent in the future as education and technology increases.

You have the same view of religion as the others in this thread. You're viewing what it was instead of what it is. That's why your criticisms ultimately fail to do anything. You're shooting at a moving target. Also, as I already pointed out, as societies have increased their technological and educational capabilities, religion has increased in prevalence in those societies. You can think that it'll become less, but history and current events have shown the opposite to be the case.

Im on the same page with you....People say religion is a tool used to control peoples minds,well why aren't black people smart enough to use it to help themselves and promote they agenda....Im speaking of black people who promote black empowerment,upliftment,unity,black economics....religion can be used to promote all of those things and the foundation is already set up for it.

Well...an older head once told me that he attributed a lot of the violence and deviance in the poor black communities today with black youth being "godless" people. He said that they had "nothing to fear" because according to Christianity by default you feared god and his judgement; but that wasn't the case in this day and age with today's youth.

After hearing him break it down that way, I think he had a point .

Black folks in yesteryears were poorer, less educated and had legitimate gripes about "racism" in their lives...but their crime rates and OOW were much lower by comparison. I think religion may have been the major factor in all of that...

Perhaps not, but I don't think the idea of going from being "god fearing" to "no longer fearing" is a coincidence with the increase in violence. PersonallyI think we all fear something, and I don't believe that there isn't one person out there who doesn't fear death. Accepting it's inevitability is one thing; but to outright not "fear" that ? The Bible was also used to free slaves and end slavery as well...

The Koran also prohibits slavery....

The problems aren't with the books, it's really the people who interpret them.
