I'm the daughter of a minister and I told my parents that I don't believe in the bible a few weeks ago.
While they both explained they knew I felt this way, my Daddy has been scheming ways to change my mind. I don't mind going to church (the best gossip happens there), prayer don't bother me (I'm trying to teach myself how to meditate, so I just ignore whoever is talking), nor do I mind having religious friends (it's a good way to learn and understand the way they think). I may not agree with it, but it doesnt affect me

It's soooo hard (offline) to find a man that shares my beliefs, especially a black man.

You'll be alright though. There's more nonreligious black guys than women, and even if they're not atheists, they generally won't not date or marry you over it. It's more women than men that have Jesus litmus tests.

I somehow managed to find a black wife in the south who doesn't have any problems with me being nonreligious.

That is actually one of the many issues I have with the church. It makes its money off of the insecurities of black women.

I got a atheist homie that hasn't dated in years, but he wants to date only a sista. The problem with that is, most black women are religious in some form.

I must have missed the memo that says an atheist can't date a religious person.. And yea he should only seriously date sistas... but he can hit others tho just to get it out his system in the mean time.

There's no need to even compare whether or not its harder to find a black atheist woman/man. Hands down black women are much more religious. That is actually one of the many issues I have with the church. It makes its money off of the insecurities of black women.

That's one thing I've never completely understood.

Even in my own family, the women are much more religious. My sister/mother/grandmother/etc are all fairly religious while most of the men in my family don't care that much for it and only go to church if dragged. I've never understood why women in general, but especially black women, are on average so much more into religion than men. Especially considering most major religions could be considered fairly patriarchal.

I guess maybe it's appealing on an emotional level.

i know men that worship jesus but dont mess with church unless somebody is getting married, having a funeral, or getting baptised. it's just the women that stay in there on wednesdays, sundays, and early friday before going clubbing. if you see a heterosexual black man spending lots of time at church, chances are he's making money off it.

No, it's not. It's just that the vast majority of the men you may be attracted to, who are socially aware, who aren't swagless, who may have a decent career - will more than likely be religious.

But that sh1t doesn't matter anyway. My girl is an atheist (back n forth between that and agnostic)... and kinda talks sh1t when something comes up; but we respect each other as people.

Or he's trying to fukk. Also, some men with daughters go to church with them just because they think it will prevent them from being whores.

I tried that that one time, along with a bunch of other shyt. Thought I was on to something, until I ended up in county jail facing some cac judge with a gavel that She don't mind using. Needless to say, that prayer got me out of a situation that other stuff couldn't think of doing. Ive learned one thing, everyone has beliefs, but when it's time for you to face a deathly illness, or something else worse, better make sure what you believe is strong enough to bring you back

I'm actually sitting in a hospital bed right now. Breast cancer. Both breast removed on the 18th of March, lymph nodes removed this afternoon. My belief lies within myself, and with the support of my family and friends, I know that I will be okay once this battle is over. I don't feel the need to believe in religion to "bring me back" as you've previously stated

Most people use religion as a crutch. I don't need a book to tell me what'd right/wrong or moral. If more people took responsibility for their actions AND did what is necessary to change the outcome instead of blaming "Satan" or saying stupid shyt like "God knows my heart" or "If it's God's will, then " this world would be a better place.
