Yeah that was lame. It absolutely was an announcement for an announcement. Most sites are predicting a mid-gen refresh ( ie Hall effect joysticks, relocated SD card reader, slightly larger battery, etc). To be fair, I'd be happy if they only upgraded the RAM, painted it black, and add an extra USB-c port.

I still use my Ally on the regular and love it. I just blew through Gears 5 and Hivebusters. Lossless Scaling app was recently updated and works very well, better than AMD's AFMF.

I'll definitely watch the real announcement on June 2, but I am not anticipating buying the Ally X. I lost money selling my Steam Deck, and can't justify upgrading the Ally after only a year. Its not like I have a ton of games that are too graphically intense for it yet.

They announced a announcement wtf lol.

But i highly doubt this is the actual second gen version. More likely this is the mid gen refresh.

Fixes sd card issues/Bigger battery/Color options. Thats your ROG Ally 2024 edition.

The ROG Ally 2 will be sometime next year.

Actually here's the details!

I'll have to wait and see. OLED screen would've made this day one though.

I'd pre-ordered the Killswitch case for the Ally from DBrand. They finally finished development of it and started sending out notices for pre-order customers to go purchase their cases. I got mine with the travel cover attachment. They'll open up the purchasing to everyone else in a few days I believe.

215 Uptown!

"If" i can find a open box model before the holidays for around 400-450 i'll cop and give my current one to my brother. But i def wouldn't spend anymore then that as someone who has the original.

The 80wh battery and 24GB of faster ram will really distance this device from the Steam Deck. Depending on the price I might get it. I'm hoping or a $799 price. Bestbuy hopefully will offer 10% for their cardholders again like they did with the original Ally. I took a bath selling my Steam Deck after one year. I don't really want to do the same a year later on my Ally. Besides price, I'm nervous about the extra weight. I've come to appreciate how light weight the Ally is compared to the Steam Deck. The extra USB 4.0 jack seems to be exciting people most on reddit and discord. Now any eGPU should work, instead of Asus own units.

:francis: Yeah the X looks like it's mainly to address the shytty battery life and additional ram is a plus (even though most games won't make it past 16gb unless you are playing a heavy sim).

I'm good with my Z1E and planning to get the xgmobile to take the bih to the moon :wow:

Because its unified ram, you can allocate 16gb to the system and 8gb to the iGPU. That and the extra speed should make a difference in the FPS 1% lows and possibly even reduced frame stutter.

Unless its a future proof thing, folks are better off just copping the Z1E version (which will possibly be cheaper), cop Lossless Scaling, and use the optimization hacks that even Microsoft introduced for gaming purposes.

I mainly use my Ally as a portable gaming desktop PC, while the Deck is the work laptop with gaming being a plus.
