I've never been to Durban, but I've never had any problems with xenophobia but I was only there for about 3 weeks total.

You can rent a car its not that expensive and it gives you more flexibility

Some questions if you have time...

  1. How is the weather? I know the very southern part of SA is near the arctic and even snows in that part.
  2. Are there ANY MODERN Khoisan people? Have you met any?
  3. Why is the white population leaving(we know the answer just want to hear your opinion)?
  4. What are their thoughts of African-Americans?

Some questions if you have time...

  1. How is the weather? I know the very southern part of SA is near the arctic and even snows in that part. Snows but super rare. They should be in late fall beginning of "winter". May gets down to 32 1-2 days. Nothing extreme. Cape reminds me of San Francisco. Durban is Miami. Joburg is not too hot but it has its days. The thunderstorms will make you shyt yourself
  2. Are there ANY MODERN Khoisan people? Have you met any? Describe modern. I mean my girl and her family and friends are super modern. Hooked to their technologies, fashion, etc. but still recognize their clans customs when it's time to. Like she wants to have a kid so I know I'd have to pay damages and whatnot. Then be there for the goat slaughter and asking of elders to accept the child into their clan.
  3. Why is the white population leaving(we know the answer just want to hear your opinion)? A mix of they see where Zuma and the ANC are leading the country and they don't want to be apart of that strife. There's a lot of hostility bubbling under the surface at the national level and as the let elections showed, at the provincial level as well. Throw in the xenophobic attacks, instability of the Rand, Battle over rightful ownership of the land, foreigners coming in and taking the prime real estate and/or setting up shop and pricing out the indigenous store owners and not keeping that money in the community and well, I don't like where it may be headed soon. They're just like white folks in America except they don't have the numbers (and I mean in all aspects)
  4. What are their thoughts of African-Americans? I'm going to ask my girl to answer this and will get back to you

Uber in Durban was super efficient and with the exchange rate UberX was dirt cheap. I used it about 15-20 times in a 1 week span and had no issues. They will show you mad love as a black American. Just don't go over there tryin to stunt  . But real talk you fukk around over there and might end up with a wife the way some of those women treat you :ohlawd:Durban is like a lowkey Miami. Definitely one of my most favorite trips ever

It's up to you. I kept most of my cash in the hotel safe and just carried however much I would need for the day. Go to an ATM whenever I ran out, but visa is accepted most restaurants so it's not a requirement.

gotcha. I use AMEX and they don't charge a Forgien Transaction fee. What are some of the things you did in Durban? My trip isn''t until fall so I havent started to look up things to do.

I went out there for the Essence fest last year so that's what I did most of the time, but there's a lot of shyt to do out there.
- mabhida stadium tour (this is real dope especially if you are a soccer head. this was one of the stadiums used in world cup 2010) and ride the skycar for dope views at the top
- safari (there's hundreds of tour companies who do it)
- walk the golden mile (this was actually one of my favorite things i did. it's like a big ass boardwalk right on the beachfront. I would check this out on a Saturday/sunday. everybody is out then just enjoying the beach)/ get some grub at afro's chicken along the way
- Ushaka Marine World (world class aquarium - but if you go during their spring break, it's a big ass pool party - :banderas:)
- check out Umhlanga which is an touristy area but still cool to see
- never got a chance to check it out but when I go back I'm a hit up St. Lucia which is supposed to be a dope beach town a few hours away
- for night life it's mostly Florida road. All I'm a tell you is go to Cubana early (8 or 9p) on a fri/sat night. tell'em you gonna get the works (food, drink, & hookah) so they give you a nice table up front. breh you will eat. I miss that place:mjcry:
- they also got a casino over there.

breh shyt is endless for real. how long you gonna be there?

  1. Surprised that snow is super rare.
  2. Modern as in they live in modern society than in their hunter gatherer lifestyle that we usually associate them with. Like have you ever seen a Khoisan chick at the club? Mall? Bar?
  3. Interesting.
  4. Okay
1. It snowed in KZN last year folks went apeshyt. Was barely a dust storm

2. Oh no doubt. They're every ever year where. Anyone who's been there will tell you there so no distinction of us here in them over there. Now in the rural areas it's a drastic 180 depending on where you venture. But the youngins seem to be buckin against traditional customs in the urban spots. They'll wear traditional garb and do chants but live how their elders did, no way.

4. Might be a sec on that answer. But I'll give it to you once she replies to my text

About 8 days. I`m going with my girl so I`m good on eating :francis:

I`m going to be staying right on the golden mile I think (I believe I can walk to it from the hotel because the hotel is on the beach). I was looking at cribs in Durban and told my girl I wouldn't mind living there (or the other main SA cities), the only thing that would suck is still having to pay US taxes if I took a gig with one of the major tech companies in SA.
