How they made up Ash from Red is beyond me... One of the most unaccomplished and bytch ass incarnations of a character I have ever seen.

Not sure how much you know but Red is the character of the original Red game, the inspiration of the anime series' Ash, with Gary being based of Blue, the main character in the Blue game. Red however was used as the protagonist of the Pokemon manga, and it's a running joke of how much of a bad-ass he is compared to Ash.
