Odd Future = most obvious industry plant of all time

They were managed by a former Interscope exec with close ties to Eminem :childplease:
How the fukk are they "industry plants"? Tyler is still not signed to any label and Frank Ocean is one of the most talented singer/songwriters in years. Your trolling game is touching Rhyme Kings, congratulations. Unlike indie singers, rappers are bigger attention whores and have better connection with major players, that's why they have gateways and eagerness to reach mainstream. While indie singers like someone random like Beach House, are not trying to fukk with Lady Gaga, they are not trying to have videos all over youtube and on. They wanna make music and perform it, thats it.

I just remember before "LiveLoveASAP" came out, Complex ran an online article with a short list of new artists that you needed to listen to. I recall ASAP being on that list along with Action Bronson, Mr. Muthafukkin' Exquire, Trouble, and a few others.

The big deal about ASAP was his sound (Harlem rapper w/ Houston influence), the ASAP mob meaning and gimmick, and the really eye-catching thing was the video for "Purple Swag"...

ASAP Rocky "Purple Swag" - YouTube

I just remember bumping this all summer and people were like :why: "Who's that white chick in the video with the gold grill"? Why is he wearing a "fukk Swag" shirt when the hook is saying "Swag"? Dude just had an interesting...gimmick/storyline or whatever you want to call it.

It's kind of similar to when Odd Future was making noise by doing numbers at their and having legends check them out... then Tyler did the "Yonkers" video.

Even with OF, way before Yonkers there was a thread titled something like "16 year old is the black Eminem" that had the Earl video in there. It's videos of them fooling around before shows.

Brandun Deshay, who was one of the original members of OF released a tape in 08 with a song called Odd Future Freestyle and Tyler raps on a song called Odd Octubree.

A lot of these guys have buzz that eventually build up and get big, but people don't see any of that and scream industry plant.

How does having a manger with connections make you a plant?

And you say this like it was hidden. They shouted Clancy out in songs, have put him in their videos and he's been interviewed.

I'm pretty sure in the Billboard magazine interview they mention that he worked with Em.

You can't tell me this Houston dikkrider was bubbling in his hood (Harlem) or city (NY)

Dude came out of nowhere and got put on Drake's tour in less than 6 months of dropping his first unofficial record

Questionable YouTube buzz -> Hot 97 airplay out of nowhere as an unsigned rapper with one song out -> white publications (Pitchfork, Complex) jumping on the dikk -> Major label deal with RCA/Sony

Read up on his history: ASAP Rocky - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

or maybe fans are just quick to crown new "stars" now :mjpls:

It's not hard to get yourself poppin...youtube vids, twitter, and free mixtapes should be able to get you a standard 360 from a greedy :ld:

no one's saying any of these rappers didn't grind at first we're saying their big "rise to the top" moment was manufactured

2 Chainz has been grinding for years but I do believe the random barrage of getting featured on hot records was a set up by Def Jam :youngsabo:

It seems like a get rich quick scheme.

Youtube vids + twitter + free mixtapes = 360 deal = why there are 100000 rappers nowadays.

That is not the case. At the end of the day you gotta make music that moves people, and in this internet age where something that came out last week feels like lightyears ago an artist has to find consistency to keep people talking about them. This is why Lil B is killing the game now; his music/style moves his crowd (movement) and he stays in your face. This makes up for the lack of machine behind him. It seems like he films a video every day. Shout outs to BasedGod! Not everyone is blessed with the ability to make trax that move people and very less have the ability to make a catalogue worthy of it.

Ive been doing music since 02; met many celebs and been around plenty labels/major artists. I known the hip-hop grind before Myspace, Youtube. Ive heard Rick Ross in 2001 on the same underground radio stations where my music currently plays. No matter where technology is going the same things have been consistent.

At the end of the day its about good strong/impactful music. Anyone can manufacture a hit/star but that is only short lived. The key is not asking yourself "how do I get in the game?" it is asking "what is going to keep me in the game?".

Once you perfect how you are going to stay in the game; u've already made it into the game.

he was signed to Polo Grounds records for a while before he popped off

then he dropped that Purple Swag video and got a crazy following, then Peso came, then it was a wrap

and he had buzz in Harlem but more so in the hipster parts of Manhattan, which is how he got kliqd up with designers like Jeremy Scott

Yeah
he was signed to Polo Grounds records for a while before he popped off

then he dropped that Purple Swag video and got a crazy following, then Peso came, then it was a wrap

Him and Lana del ray have the same people behind them.

Lana del Rey was a failed mainstream pop artist repackaged to appeal to a indie market

Interscope is famous for this they did it with frank ocean too.

Frank ocean was "packaged" with odd future he was already writing for people in the industry prior to being officially signed.

You think kanye wasn't asked and paid to consign Tyler the creators video on YouTube :mjpls:

You think drake wasn't paid to put ASAP on his tour :mjpls:

:laff: at you thinking ASAP and Lana just happen to do songs together for no reason, they are packaged together.

Take with it what you want but shill marketing is done heavy for most artist these days and some of your favorite go to bloggers are in on it too.
