Funny, I remember the animated spiderman always cracking jokes and one liners.

Tobey was a emotionless statue
EVERY spider man iteration aside from him cracked jokes, had personality, backbone, and a cockiness about them. He showed nothing...
To each his own brehs I just couldn't get into to Andrew :yeshrug:either way the char rides on this new kid now.

Well to me, the spidy in the animated series, didn't come across as a nerdy nikka, he was just a dude that was very smart but not really popular:yeshrug: Toby portrayed that to me, it came off is normal to him. Andrew wasn't really bad at the part but he came off as overly nerdy. Thats just me though to each his own.
i thought andrew was overly a$$holeish, that part in the first one where he dunked on flash made him come off as a bully to me and that stuck with me. as spiderman though he did nail it, esp the beginning of the second one

edit:

i never picture peter parker like this :yeshrug:

But that's how Peter reacted when he first got bit breh. Read that first issue of amazing or even amazing fantasy. Or the first few ultimate issues. Him doing that to flash is no different than him telling the wrestling promoter he's a wrestler not a crime fighter and letting the thief go by. Or any other time he insults flash for being a dummy which he did a lot of before they became friends.

Lol I'm just saying breh. Peter has many facets and being an a$$hole at times is one of them. He used to constantly crack on flash for being an idiot. Grant it flash deserved it a lot of the time but still he'd always get on him. He's not a saint. He can be selfish and arrogant and truly believe the world would go to pieces if he wasn't around. That's why I loved Andrews performance because he allowed Pete to be a person not some caricature of what people think Peter is. Even in the scene you're talking about it was pure retaliation and in typical Peter fashion, it backfired on him and he ended up paying the price for it.

Can you really blame him? That's the way his character was written :yeshrug:

Very true but as an actor he can still put his input in as to what the character would or wouldn't do. I know that was Sam's interpretation of the character but it was the wrong one on his part and Tobey's. And when he was called on to do some humor he dropped the ball

Tobey's Spider-Man was far from horrible. Not that he was a great Spider-Man either but I take more issue in the way they still wrote him as this whiny mopey dude after two movies (the second one's character arc actually being that he got over being mopey). That was the right moment to give us the smart-ass Spidey and instead they got scared and wrote him as if he hadn't progressed from the whiny high schooler at all.

And at that point Tobey was so old that the moping couldn't even pass for teen (or young adult) angst anymore and it was just an adult crying over everything like "what the hell, man!". Other than that, dude was alright.
