Let's look at some FACTS here

1) As of july 2013 (which more or less will be the same now in early 2014), pac's US sales stand at 29,010,000
Link: http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-july-14-2013-albums-jay-z-030009697.html

2) As of Dec 2004 Pac had sold 24.4 million in the USA
18 million of that came after his death
Link: http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/65215/tupacs-game-haunts-album-chart-at-no-1

That means Pac only sold 6.4 million albums in the USA before death and the other 22.6 million came after his death

This is probably because he died while his number 1 cd was STILL SELLING RETARD! Also this is false. He sold 5X platinum on All Eyes On ME while he was alive because he was bragging about it. 5X Platinum + Me against the world sold over 7 million while he was alive. Get this sh!t outta here. Once he signed with death row he became bigger than life. That's why he sold.. Nothing to do with death.

6.5 million records for all eyes on me as of his last interview. CD was gonna do 10 million no matter what.

Is wish people would keep in mind that 1996 was the year hip hop started to really grow and make an impact on a commercial level.

It hadn't even reached its peak yet. Pac didn't even release a NEW album at the height of record sales.

Tupac had better content then jay, that's about it.
Again, with Nas, where does he come in to this? That's like saying "if nas was involved in a coastal beef boosted by the media and died at the height of his career, he would have out sold tupac"
There is no way validate this claim. All that typing and still not an answer to my original Q.
(1) Dude, I explained the Nas point already...Let me try this one more time...I mentioned Nas ONLY to put 2Pac's prolificness into perspective...2Pac was only in the game for 5 years, but in those 5 years, he released enough material to rival other rappers who have been in the game for 20 years...

(2) Whatever your original question was, I answered, whether you are willing to accept my answer or not is another story...

(3) I recognize the "if 2Pac was still alive" talk is IRRELEVANT...The fact is, a fan of 2Pac's work, I don't need fantasize about what ifs....In 5 years, 2Pac produced what Jay Z needed 25 years (since Hawaiian Sophie) to surpass...Period.

Are these not the numbers that the thread starter posted...?

(4) All the work 2Pac ever produced was officially started in 1991 and officially ended in 1996...And this work is in the top 5 selling works in Hip Hop History...If that is NOT an accomplishment then what it is...?

(5) Another rapper was also involved in a "coastal beef boosted by the media and died at the height of his career" and that rapper was arguably more popular than Nas, but his numbers and material don't stack up to 2Pac's...

Why does 2Pac's music have "life after death" but other dead rappers have NOT been able to replicate similar success...?

(6) Of course, death appears to boost sales immediately after the incidence, but only legends are able to sustain significant sales consistently over time...

(7) Think about this, if 2Pac didn't sell the majority of his records in the 5 years he was alive, that means he sold a shyt load of records, after his death, because it took Jay Z damn near 18 years to rich 2Pac's status in record sales...That means, even in death, 2Pac was able to compete with Jay Z and the entire rap game (except Eminem) for damn near 18 years...

Can you even imagine how much of legend you have to be to compete with the MOST visible rapper in the game 18 years after your death...?

Seriously dude, put the hate aside, and just try to picture...2Pac has been dead for almost 18 years...He didn't have The Neptunes, Kanye West, Timbaland and all the hottest producers in the game giving him the best beats...He didn't have the chance to cross-brand with Beyonce...He didn't have chance to be "inspired" by Philly rappers' whisper and other flows :lolbron:, he didn't have a chance to start a clothing line and etc...

Even with all his promotional advantages, Jay Z is still needed 18 years to climb 2Pac's monumental legacy...

Who is comparing Biggie's, Big L's, Big Pun's and etc legacies to Jay Z's...They also died...How come their deaths didn't sustain them through all these years...?

Why is 2Pac the only dead rapper in the same bracket as Jay Z and Eminem...? If death is such a great promoter, why don't the record sales acknowledge all these other dead rappers...?

Those were both double albums so cut that 12 million down to 6 (soundscan doesn't count double albums at 2 sales, although the riaa does for certification purposes).
Pac's first 2 albums didn't sell much before his death, so the majority of the 6.4 million pre death comes from the 2 double albums.
Billboard wouldn't lie.
6.4 million off 4 albums pre death.
Deal with it

Huh?

AEOM sold 5 mil before his death
Strictly 4 My nikkaz was plat
MATW was double plat
2Pacalypse and Thug Life were both Gold

And Makaveli might as well count as an album released when he was alive, the shyt was already complete and dropped the very next month

Hail Mary was already a smash single, Hit Em Up was also makin mad noise so Pac was still on pace to do numbers

If anything Pac dying fukked up those album sales, he wasn't around to make enough videos or really promote it

A strong argument can be made that Pac woulda sold way more records had he lived
