Ehhh dont do that.Music is entertainment. I don't want to hear average Joe rap. That's why Phonte never blew even though he super nice, he just raps about regular black man shyt there is no escapism.
Tyler also came onto the scene as the leader of a crew with crazy shock value as his calling card.I think some of these suburb/non-street rappers need to take a page out of Tyler's book and get a bit more versatile and visually creative. I personally don't really fukk with Cordae cause I think he's an opportunistic snake, but there's nothing about Cordae that grabs me and makes me want to hear what he's talking about considering he's not at such a high technical level to where I want to hear him rap about anything.
I mentioned Tyler because as a rapper, he's super limited and his personal story isn't too different from the average black boy growing up in the suburbs, but he makes up for it by standing out musically (I guess being a producer helps), every album has a different visual/branding aesthetic and he knows how to tell a story/concept with his albums like they're indie movies and it's not on some typical street shyt or getting money and hoes type raps.
Dudes need to try be artists more and less rappers
Cudi created the whole emo rap lane that nikkas like trippie redd and juice wrld ran with along with lil uziThey are all womanizing cool nikkas in their raps which Is a form of escapism and fantasy, and Cudi has the emo gimmick cacs like.
This is the sad truthThis is why being a street, trap or gangster rapper is the cheat code and preferred path if you’re trying to make it in rap
You can be Like durk and mention the trenches and opps in every single verse and no one would claim “you’re not talking about shyt”
Basically you feel that Cordae hasn’t struggled enough in life to relate. We all gravitate to people who been through it because life is more struggle than anything else and we want that reflected in the music but also the triumph of overcoming those struggles. It’s not a need for a wild backstory it’s he has no backstory that’s interesting. A lot of rappers I loved growing up didn’t have a wild back story but it was interesting. Like you felt their personality through the music, where they’re from, what they’re into. I don’t get that feel from Cordae’s songs.
Or even if he didn't struggle but he had a significant message. I think Chuck D grew up in the suburbs and he's one of my favorites. But his message was overpowering and meant something and you can see passion behind it. Cordae just be rapping, you can tell he's not street but like someone else said, you can tell he's also not well read or has anything above a surface level of understanding life. He's a kid who played video games and started rapping because he knew technically how to put it together well.Basically you feel that Cordae hasn’t struggled enough in life to relate. We all gravitate to people who been through it because life is more struggle than anything else and we want that reflected in the music but also the triumph of overcoming those struggles.
Los to me is a different kinda rapper than the other two, but I get what you're saying. I don't listen to Los music like that either. He's levels above the other two as an MC though.Cordae
Los
Joyner Lucas
And several others, dope in the technical aspects but pretty empty artists
Exactly 5 and they are more interesting than JId and Cordae are. Even Rapsody and so is Isaiah Rasheed and it wasn't 10 years ago in his case either. You named 5 rappers with legit mainstream success that aren’t street rappers and those rappers debut were at least 10 years ago

Y’all just be saying anything lol.I feel the same way about JID. They don't talk about shyt.
how?
never heard Cordae played on repeat anywhere. he's recognized not forced
there's no longer artist development and rappers learn on the job. Cordae has the same rough things about him Cole did. Cole took a long ass time to make decent albums. Like Cordae he can kill features and verses but had to develop better bodies of work. these dudes don't lack a story they just don't have a contrived one that appeals to the values people have come to look for in rap... how real you are, went thru a struggle, feared/respected where you come from etc etc.
if you wanna be discounted and hated in rap the worst thing you can be is a regular ass person.
It's not about being contrived or having a crazy origin story just be creative and really say something. We get you can rap but what are you saying that hasn't been said or hasn't been said like that. That's the challenge.Y’all just be saying anything lol.
Y’all want those contrived comic book origin stories and this doesnt work with social media & the internet. Folks will get exposed quick if they aren’t what they say.
Rap been around 40+ years… Pretty much everything has been said at this point. From every region with every kind of production. It's not about being contrived or having a crazy origin story just be creative and really say something. We get you can rap but what are you saying that hasn't been said or hasn't been said like that. That's the challenge.
