Is spoiler tags opening weekend (and/or 3 days) a good idea?

The fact that they continue to make movies about Jesus despite that fact that everyone knows he dies by crucifixion in the end completely invalidates this Game of Thrones argument. People are just being overly sensitive. If people want to avoid spoilers that badly they take upon themselves to do so.
Thecoli is where people come to talk about shyt and you guys want to prevent us from doing that. If there is something they don't want to talk about all it takes is a small measure of common sense to avoid the subject. If you don't want spoilers just stay out of the film room. Problem solved. Don't make our jobs to cater to them.

That Jesus argument is terrible. People go see Jesus movies because they're #1 probably religious or #2 they care specifically about how the story is told. Not surprises and plot twists.

That =/= people never care about surprises and plot twists. C'mon man. That shyt makes no sense whatsoever. That's like saying "why do people care about spoilers for 'Endgame', if they watched 'Titanic'?"....it's like....what? :dahell:

And this ain't about spoilers in general. Spoilers are a bannable offense. That was a site rule before The Film Room existed. It was a rule on SOHH, before this entire site existed. So that's not something that's gonna change, ever. This vote is about how we do (or, depending on the vote, don't) apply that rule to new movies. That's it.

Love spoilers let's me know if I'll watch the movie or not... Going to imdb or other places saved me from watching some crap

I do believe that after a movie is 3 days old spoilers are expected because naturally people are going to want to talk about it.

I think spoiler tags for the first couple days is cool. The two separate threads does work, but I could see it being easy to click on the spoiler thread by accident. Plus since we are here for discussion, having two threads for the same movie is kind of fragmenting that discussion. I watch what I wanna watch regardless, but it is cool seeing what a group of people, whose taste I respect, generally feel about a movie without being spoiled. Plus if I see a movie on Netflix I never got around to, and I'm not sure about devoting the 2 hrs to it, I do sometimes search for the thread here to get some feedback. If anyone is dumb enough to click spoilers or keep reading deep into a thread a week after it came out, oh well:hubie:

I'm speaking more specifically to the MCU but...
The MCU isn't an M night shamalyn movie, we are familiar with source material. We aren't watching for plot twists but for how well they adapted popular comicbook arcs. Usually it's when they do a random plot twist they we walk away unhappy like with the Mandarian in Iron Man 3.

But outside the MCU for movies in general having to rely on a plot twist to garner intrigue is a straight trashy gimmick. I liked 6th Sense, but had no reason whatsoever to see that movie more than once. If spoiling a plot twist ruins the movie then that means it was just a garbage movie. They likely did you a favor, but that said i can recognize those type of twists and never spoil them for others.

But thats beside the point though, you weren't being specific to plot twists before, just spoilers in general. I just feel like it should be their responsibility to avoid them not everyone elses. Those people should self mod their own coli experiences. I believe they even have software you can use to block certain keywords from showing up on your computer.

It's impossible for written text to ruin a movie experience. Two entirely different mediums. I've read alot of comics so i know pretty much whats going to happen in alot of these marvel movies but it hasn't changed my enjoyment at all. If fact i would say it has enhanced it. builds up my anticipation. You guys would be better off banning the trailers from being posted, that does more to spoil a movie than any amount of words typed in a forum can.

You're focused on comics like they're the only movies made. :dead:

Every movie doesn't come from previously written material. For those that do, everyone isn't familiar with it's source. For those that don't, who the fukk wants to know pivotal scenes before spending money to see it?

You're tellin me you'd rather have known the kid could see dead people all along. Or that DiCaprio wasn't some detective, but infact a patient being put through an elaborate ruse. Nah, knowing those spoilers beforehand wouldn't have completely changed the viewing experience. :dead:

You're right, i was speaking mostly in regards to comicbook movies. Most of the media i like has pre-established lore.:manny:
I just feel like real authors are better at writing stories than some staffed screenwriter working for Fox on a salary.
JRR Tolkien , Stan Lee, JK Rowlings >>>>> Steve in the scifi department at Universal.

For a lot of people it does though. Therein lies the dilemma.

Just browsing this sub-forum you will see dozens of threads asking "what TV show should I watch?", "what horror movies are good?", "what do you recommend on Netflix?"....hell, there's a few on the first page.

So people do go into movie threads to get a feel for whether or not they should see them.

Fred.
Man, I actually had a line in my post saying that I do look to the coli for tv recs but I erased it lol.

I understand what you mean but for me, taking a TFR poster recommendation on what to watch on Netflix is different from asking what to pay to watch on the big screen. But like you said earlier, that's specific to me and that's the dilemma

I don't necessarily just mean plot twists. That's just the most obvious example of something that could be spoiled.

It could be a plot twist. It could be a character death. It could be a big reveal. It could be something that people want to interpret on their own.

I mean, look at the "Us" discussion thread. There's a gang of different interpretations on the movie. Most people are like "let me go see this, then weigh in". They don't want large sections of the movie ruined for them....and/or a play-by-play before they even form their own interpretation. Part of the fun in that thread is how people interpret the movie. Spoilers could taint that.

If you're against spoiler tags my question would then be: Can a person not have a dialogue at all before watching a movie then? :usure:
This idea that spoilers aren't a big deal to begin with, or that a person should essentially disconnect from the internet until they've seen a movie is ridiculous.
This is a message board. No one is stopping anyone from making threads. What's the problem with making a "spoiler free" thread and a "spoiler" thread? :dwillhuh:
Some people want to just share theories or discuss general info until they actually get around to watching the movie.
I've never understood the thirst to rush to see something just to come back and yell "FIRST!" like an excited child and ruin it for other people and acting arrogant about it afterwards. :upsetfavre:
