As an avid movie theater goer, it pains me to see the state of the industry.

I think you're missing my point. I'm talking from a "people are afraid to go to the movies because of covid" standpoint. Clubs, bars, restaurants, sporting events, festivals etc have all been packed. a lot of people are not afraid or are vaccinated etc. also re: your other point. Movies are a communal experience. Many people like to go with others. even if we do sit in silence.

I'm not missing your point. That is my point. People are choosing which communal experience to not give a damn about. And it's the ones where you are not sitting in silence for two hours. You think with all that other stuff selling out that people would feel the same about movies. In this time, they're showing what they value more, and they value that face to face interaction, and not to sit in a theater watching an oversized TV. We just had two CBMs come out, and the fans did not turn out. I was at both, and with the exception of the Dolby theaters with the reclining seats, all the shows were empty. Yet the Applebee's, Chevy's and Shannon Rose in the same shopping plaza were full.

That opening is not regardless of the pandemic. It’s decent considering the pandemic, but this is not the box office it would have seen had it opened in May of 2020. On a $200 million budget it made like $369 million globally. That’s crisis mode numbers.

Its on part with a lot of first mcu movies in a franchise. They also waited too long and she died in a movie years ago and they can't release it in China yet :manny:

The movie theater experience is one of few things that links generations. It’s been around since forever it seems.

Studios spend millions to put out products but it seems like this Covid shyt has exposed that fact that the majority of people simply don’t care enough and it’s sad. There are at least 10 movies that dropped this year that I would have normally gone to see in theaters but didn’t :snoop:

An entire industry is being eroded and people don’t care, but at the same time talk that “lockdowns and mask mandates hurt business” shyt :mjpls:
Hollywood evil gotta get its karma too :francis:

When I did a thread almost a decade ago saying Theaters would be pretty much obsolete by 2030. People were shocked, thought I was crazy. Everyone that has read my post over the years Knows I'm a movie buff/head. Always loved going to the movies. But I'd be lying if I didn't see the writing on the wall. This is Netflix/Blockbuster all over again. The Pandemic is only accelerating the process. People are making health decisions and sadly going to the movies isn't worth it for a lot of people. Plus what have they done to make it a better experience? I've enjoyed the last year of peace and quiet watching movies. Being able to pause, use the bathroom, make a quick snack. It's a different experience. Maybe Alamo Draft house had the right model after all making it a full dinning experience. And I'm sorry the Blockbusters are getting worse. Oversaturating of Comic movies. Not enough story diversity in Blockbusters. Now you have a whole generation of youth is growing up with streaming and watching movies and shows on their phone. Technology has eliminated a lot of industries in the past. Why are movie theaters exempt? They've only been able to survive because of the "Theatrical Window". Now that consumers have a choice, it's harder to get people back in the Theater especially during a Pandemic. Sure movies are still making money but not as much as before.

It's already been over a year since I've been back. Nothing incoming is enough to bring me back. "Matrix 4" might have been the one but HBO MAX means I will be having a Matrix viewing party instead. Anyone with kids right now aren't going to the movies like that. Disney Plus, Netflix and HBO Max has more than enough entertainment for children. I don't think the Theater will die but it will be more like Arcades or Record Stores. When Atari and Nintendo took over, everyone thought Arcades would survive. With in 10 years, The Arcades completely got gutted by home gaming. DVD wiped out VHS in less than 10 years. Cell Phone Cameras and digital photos wiped out print Photo in less than 10 years. Technology evolves and so do we. Nobody from my era is screaming for a VHS Tape. I'm sorry. The Theater is not what it use to be. Plus if you came up in the 80's, we've always have VHS, Home Video and even HBO. But the Theater was apart of the experience. You saw it on the Big Screen then saw it at home. Now you take out the middle man and people will just watch at home. Plus a Flat Screen TV and Sound System can be brought for under a 1,000. It wasn't like that before. It's pretty much over, Streaming will continue to grow and dominate over the next decade. The New "Cable" will be paying 99.99 for about 10 Streaming Services a month.
