A cultural thing? Try to elaborate on that. What ties do you have to Dominican culture, and how often do you visit the island? Do you realize that there is no "Latino" category on our cedulas. You're either a Mulatto, Negro, Blanco, etc..in the Dominican Republic. Like I said, the Blacks in the country acknowledge their blackness. The only ones that are confused are those living in the ghettos of the USA.

:dwillhuh:

Last I checked there was no Racial category at all on the Cedulas.

I feel like you full of shyt right now, b.:martin:

There's no racial categories on the official cencus right now, dummy. But there are still cedulas with "piel" description. And there's no "Latino" or "Dominican" category.

The current cedula doesn't mention race, and most cedula's in the past didn't either. So, yeah, the DR doesn't see/treat race the same as the US. It's a cultural difference between the DR and the US.

I agree that black Dominicans have no problem acknowledging their blackness. But your argument of there not being a "Latino" category in the DR is silly as all hell.

There's not Latino category on the Argentinian cedula, or Mexican cedula, etc. Why would you need that category in Latin American countries, being Latino is a given.

No, the current census doesn't mention race, but the cedulas definitely do. You're confused over this. We're talking about cedulas or IDs, and plenty of brand new cedulas mention skin-color. We see race like the majority of countries in the world see race; if you look black then you're black, very simple. We don't have the extreme one-droppism of the US, but if you look more black than anything else then people are going consider you a negro even if you're mixed with another race.

As far as the "Latino" label, it seems many Afro-Dominicans in the USA like to hide under this meaningless label, or their nationality in order to be seen as something other than black. It's not uncommon for some to claim "I'm not black, I'm Latino" or "I'm not black, I'm Dominican". I've seen posters in this forum do this stupid shyt.

But that's only a problem here because being "black" in America = Being Black American. Which, those Dominicans, are not (culturally).

It's all just a misunderstanding, tbh. I don't see why people get so worked up about it.
