How you a rap fan and stop listening to new music?

Y’all not rap fans just fans of your youth and non nolstalgia

Because these new nikkas sound the same and barely rap. I’m 26, if it ain’t a Detroit rapper, you ain’t catching me listen to new rap.

This is not a new phenomenon

The culture prefers rap music it’s been that way for a while now

But outside of Cole and Kendrick, these new nikkas don’t even rap. How most of the mainstream artists don’t even rhyme, how one of the up and comers in Blueface can’t stay on beat? :heh:

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
Never. I admit I don’t keep up like I used to becuz there’s SO MUCH music being released compared to the past that I can’t keep up. But I always like to stay current as best as possible. I refuse to be one of them old nikkas who complain and don’t even know whats out. If I say something is garbage it’s becuz I gave it a chance
I still try to keep up. I just ignore the trash rappers and focus on the ones that make good music and can actually rap

As someone who's complete top 10 is from the 90s who grew up on all that ish...I'd have to say I was basically done with new rap around 07' ....It hit rock bottom by then.

I like Kendrick and J Cole...but over the past 10 years, that's about it. I hate Drake and everything he stands for btw.

It’s been gradual

Drake Cole Kendrick era definitely was a hit for me because I didn’t think Cole or Kendrick were that compelling as rappers. I listened to Drake tho

It wasn’t until a couple of months something inside of me just said fukk it. I understand bars but not so much the Feeling Era we seem to be in

No biggie

Kinda fell back from "new"rap around 2013..shyt was just too generic and immature at the same time. The amount of copycats and clout chasing antics went tsunami around that time too, all up to right now.Been going back to other genres and keeping an ear out for stuff that just sounded different or could capture a vibe that wasn't corny(Ka/Chris Classic/Dark Lo/WTK/Daniel Son etc).Been listening to a lot of 80's/90's bands(Clash/The Jam/TalkingHeads/Specials/Siouxie/Tears for Fears/Soundgarden/Tool) , 80's boogie/funk and early 90's NY/Chicago house.

2018, since I stopped listening to explicit/secular hip hop. Mainly instrumentals, Lecrae and a few exception of song/albums every blue moon that ain't too explicit/hardcore.

I haven't. I'm 31 and I still try to catch the new stuff. Never wanted to be one of those dudes that got stuck in a time period.
