This is kinda true :hubie:

We just saw it with Kendrick Lamar's Damn album. K-Dot's album has a 96 MetaCritic rating and it really just isn't that amazing of an album. They don't want to talk about the mainstream pandering, stolen flows, this smart dumb nikka suddenly talking about Hebrew Israelites. :mjlol:

And that's bullshyt.
The 5 mics (rerated etc) given to west coast albums
were all circled around deathrow or ruthless alumni
dre
snoop

pac
D.o.c.
N.W.A.

Where as there is a wide array of east coast nikkas that got 5 mics.
artists like
e-40
too short
spice 1
dj quik

got overlooked, despite having albums better than a few 5 mic ny albums like BOREmatic are Only Built 4 getting sleep
What do you consider a 5 mic e40 album?

My nikka it's the only reason u had cats like Big Truck and Uncle Murda having buzz in NY. Even tho Uncle Murda stepped his game up. Shea Davis had buzz even tho he was funny. He was trash. Look at a lot of them drill nikkas. When that shyt first got poppin. shyt. Look at a lot of this trap shyt. A lot of these nikkas is street nikkas that get a pass for being trash on the mic. nikkas started using Jay Z's im not a rapper I'm a hustler shyt to excuse the fact they couldn't rap. Every lane of hip hop has shyt that the other lane gets away with. shyt there's barely even a conscious lane anymore. Even a lot of the so called rappers that get labeled conscious rappers ain't even really conscious. Lol. shyt I'm guilty of it myself. I don't even require a lot of my REAL street sounding shyt to be that lyrical. As long as that shyt sounds hard. Lol. This shyt for example.

I fukked wit Fredo and gave him a pass for not being that nice cause that shyt sounded like some hard street shyt. But when that nikka got on his trap hustlin rap shyt I couldn't even stomach him anymore.

that's not what this thread is about.

whose saying that any of these guys have classics? have any of them ever even been critically-acclaimed?

can somebody please tell me whats so classic about mos def's "black on both sides"?

theres only like 5 songs worthy of my rotation.

I mean, its not a bad album. 3.5 but whats so spectacular about it?

some of yall will call this classic, then turn around and say jadakiss makes wack albums. but jada's 1st 3 LPs are better than BOBS. not saying jada is great at making albums either, but his joints are better than this. come on.

The analysis of albums/songs from that type of rapper tends to be much more in depth than it would be for say Big Sean to the point where it gets nitpicky

People got mad at Kendrick for talking about how he sick and tired of photoshop while being okay with Quavo saying "Ike turner with the left hand" on Drake's album.

There's certain things we accept from some rappers that we don't accept from others and just about everyone has their biases

Fam. I don't see all these conscious albums getting 5 mics left n right either. U didn't even name a whole bunch of albums ya self. I'm thinking the thread is about conscious artists music getting passes. Which is why I countered that alotta street shyt gets alotta passes.

I don't see a migos album being considered an instant classic and being instantly ranked in magazines & blogs as an all-time classic, like they do for Kendrick.

who really cares about big sean?

I love BoBS but no way would I classify it as a classic. For me, not all great albums are classic so as much as I love the album I can't say its a classic.

when they get 5, its often times a 3.5 or 4. look at outkast aquemini. look at Kendrick lamar & Kanye west.

it doesn't necessarily have to be a 5. its about getting high marks period, and/or being passed off as a classic - see mos def's "black on both sides".

you bring up street rappers, but dudes in the streets are by far the toughest critics.
