Black on Both Sides is a genuine classic breh

That said, the premise of this thread is on point.

Nobody really wants to admit the majority of Root's discography just blends together and they only have 2 honestly great albums because they're "real hiphop" and "conscious" (even though they didn't even start talking about social issues until their 7th album)

Bro one of their biggest singles is "What They Do" and that came out in 96. Alotta people view conscious as positive music too. Not just social issues.

:mjlol:im sorry but talib got away with murder with them wack songs and wack flows. ran into him in atl at an A3C festival - trash is not the word to describe this winey ass artist on stage - voice so terrible he got mad at himself because he didnt like how he sounded on stage :dead:
Yea talib is a shining example. A 2 mic rapper at best gettjng 4/4.5 mic ratings, carried compl tely by hi teks beats

And that's why you're just another one of THEM masquerading as some hiphop awakened nikka.

because I don't think f*ckin E-40 has a classic album?

I guess i'll just have to be one of them.

your problem is you want people to agree with you word-for-word. I didn't even disagree with half of your list. you were just pushing it with some of those names.

This thread is flawed. Street rappers been gettin away wit all kinda bullshyt for years. A lot of these different sections of hip hop has certain shyt that the others can't get away with.

like what & whom?

and does what they get away with affect hip-hop as a whole?

My nikka it's the only reason u had cats like Big Truck and Uncle Murda having buzz in NY. Even tho Uncle Murda stepped his game up. Shea Davis had buzz even tho he was funny. He was trash. Look at a lot of them drill nikkas. When that shyt first got poppin. shyt. Look at a lot of this trap shyt. A lot of these nikkas is street nikkas that get a pass for being trash on the mic. nikkas started using Jay Z's im not a rapper I'm a hustler shyt to excuse the fact they couldn't rap. Every lane of hip hop has shyt that the other lane gets away with. shyt there's barely even a conscious lane anymore. Even a lot of the so called rappers that get labeled conscious rappers ain't even really conscious. Lol. shyt I'm guilty of it myself. I don't even require a lot of my REAL street sounding shyt to be that lyrical. As long as that shyt sounds hard. Lol. This shyt for example.

I fukked wit Fredo and gave him a pass for not being that nice cause that shyt sounded like some hard street shyt. But when that nikka got on his trap hustlin rap shyt I couldn't even stomach him anymore.

And you continue to be one of them with this silly response as well.
The fact that you say i'm "pushing it" by mentioning e-40,quik (and whomever else you had a problem with)
but believe albums like illmatic or OB4CL being classic is a given, shows you're one of THEM.
You've been successfully brainwashed but you think you're woke,or balanced etc. You're not though.

And that's bullshyt.
The 5 mics (rerated etc) given to west coast albums
were all circled around deathrow or ruthless alumni

N.W.A.

Where as there is a wide array of east coast nikkas that got 5 mics.
artists like
e-40
too short
spice 1
dj quik

got overlooked, despite having albums better than a few 5 mic ny albums like BOREmatic are Only Built 4 getting sleep

This again? Thread is not east vs other regions.

the mention of bobs ruined your argument--its a great album. but there is some truth to this. it was especially prominent in the early 2000s that if one did conscious or "real hiphop" they were automatically better or somehow deserving of being brought up in convo of rappers out their league.

like what & whom?

and does what they get away with affect hip-hop as a whole?

This was more of early to mid 2000s issue

Now conscious rappers are just written off as fake deep

Wacky D ur cool but you're tripping with this one

Illmatic was considered backpack and that's as good as it gets

OP....nah breh....just nah....a good track is a good track period. A good album is a good album period.

I'm a Nas Stan, but I have no problem saying his beat selection has had some rough patches...even if the lyrics were at his usual above par level...

SOHH ICEY MONOPOLY
It's the other way around

If you rap about drugs and pose with guns in your music you can do the following and not be considered a wack:

- Have no identifying content in your music. You can make songs about nothing your entire career if you pose with guns in the video. Meanwhile a conscious rapper needs "the hit song" "the uplifting song" "the storytelling track" "the song for the ladies" etc.
- Copying styles from other rappers
- Get no critical acclaim
- Have 0 social consciousness
- You can be a proud uncle tom and nikkas won't dare think less of your for it

- Lying on your past
- You don't have to enunciate (mumble rap)
- Your fans don't have to understand what the hell you're saying
- Don't have to even rhyme your lyrics (Future)
- Never battle on wax only subliminal or twitter.
- Go an entire career with no quoteables (future and his rap children)
- Have no versatility

TALK TO THESE nikkaS :damn:
