I swear people just make these threads either because:
1. They're stupid
2. They want attention or to look cool by going against the grain

No the 90's are not overrated.

??

You saying 97-99 is the weakest part of the 90's? If so that sure does say a lot about just how good the 90's were.

I skip over current music too tbh. I don't keep up and listen to every single thing that comes out, I actually listen to very little new rap. I don't have to listen to all the newest stuff - even in the early 2000's I would listen to very little. There's a bunch of good albums that I haven't even really listened to yet (from all years). But like I already said, any bad music that came out in the 90's or that comes out now is irrelevant to comparing generations. The discussions is in regards to the good music.

You are missing the point and honestly coming off as trying a bit too hard.

If a person is told what albums are already good ahead of time it's very easy to only listen to good music. If you were not around then you also don't remember how some of those artists were viewed at the time. MC Hammer was a joke but if you ask people 30+ now they will kind of laugh and to the stupid '2 legit 2 quit' thing with their hands.

You can't be in a thread talking about the 90s being overrated, saying music now isn't as good as before, then make this claim that it's irrelevant talking about bad music :snoop:

I still don't see how bad music holds any relevance. There's always going to be bad music in every year.

If we're comparing the quality of music of the 2000's to the music of the 90's, my point is that the great albums of the 90's are better (and more abundant) than the great albums of the 2000's.

I guess you're maybe talking about the music that was popular and sold a lot and was well know, and yet was still shytty? I guess I can kind of see what you mean. If there's a new movie that comes out and a lot of people go see it, but it ends up being complete garbage, then you can point to that movie as giving a bad impression on the quality of movies that year. But I personally don't let bad movies or music effect my opinion on the good stuff that comes out. That's like saying The Seahawks were not a great team this because the Texans went 2-12. I don't lump the good/bad together.

But I'll admit with the age of the internet I am spoiled. A few clicks and I can read people's opinions and review on albums or movies. A quick check on youtube and I can skim through an album and decide if it's something I want to look into more.

I was introduced to message boards in the early 2000's...sites like Nas BBS and such. It was generally agreed that the 'golden era' was the late 80s, maybe early 90s. Nothing more. Funny how the 'golden era' changes every five or so years.

'Golden Era' in rap message board speak is a synonym for 'my formative years'.

Nah, not really when you look at the talent, projects at the time. Its not just an young vs old generation but alot of famous rappers today would have gotten laughed out of a room in the 90s. Its kind of like how RB old school heads can't get into the new airy singers of present. Yeah they might make a jam or 2 but these types been gone after 1 song.

If anything the early 90s are overrated, your premise is that 97–99 don't belong in the conversation but 93 for instance was way weaker than 98, "Ditty" by Paperboy was the best thing popping that year.
