How's it overrated when factually, statistically, and classically it was Hip-Hop GOAT era, and has yet to reach that apex again in this new century:yeshrug:

most of us were barely concious in the 80's how can people give years like 86 and 88 props if most of us don't remember or didn't live through those years. A 3-5 year old can give two shyts about relevant music haha we all learned about these eras because of Napster and later on youtube and perhaps some MTV specials on classic hip hop and the ever prevalent buy 6 cd's for the price of 1 where I think i had like 4 acounts and ended up getting a shyt load of classic hip hop albums in the late 90's and early 2000's and then never actually sent them any money lmao

Yea I wasn't even born in the 80's lol. Plus imo those late 80's albums haven't aged very well. The early 90's albums have held up much better over time

No.

Compared to now...no.

Then again, I forgot this board is filled with 90s babies who grew up in the 2000s so ofcourse you would think a decade you never were old enough to fully experience let alone remember is overated (no diss).

No Father To MY Style.. A Son Unique
it basically boils down to this

the rakim, bdk, kool g, LL, NWA, public enemy, slick rick, etc era

vs

the nas, biggie, jay z, wu tang, outkast etc era

the production styles between the 2 eras is vastly different where the soudn peaked in the mid-late 90s and overcome by the wackness era of 2000+ til now where the udnerground/a few sporatic groups were actually dope

90s production is just too ill to me. rza pete and premier and their like really set it off vs marley marl who is a genius in his own right.

are the 90s overrated? na... the 80s are underrated as fukk tho cause theres some GREAT hip hop there

i think people go too far with it on here.

i just came out of a thread where people are saying that '93-99 is "the real golden era" and blah blah blah.

since when did '97-99 fit into that? and thats prolly my personal favorite era but LOL. yall stretching like a muhsukka.

and as for that '93-96 talk, sure you can say that its the goat era, but its far from the undisputed goat. and all this "true golden era" talk is laughable, since its not even the 2nd era to harbor that title.

that was literally the last creative era.......That was the last time anyone could honestly describe hip hop as a culture ...everything we are seeing now we have literally heard before .....Hip Hop was outselling everything

Its obviously debatable but I think because everything got so big so quickly, the budgets, the Hype williams million dollar videos, arena tours , the money rappers started to make, mainstream acceptance people tend to focus on those years the most...

what is undebatable is that hip hop is in the toilet right now...
