Are sports team allegiances in your city/area racially, culturally, geographically or generationally divided ?

I notice that some team fanbases clearly skew younger and blacker, or older and whiter. Some teams have more Hispanic or Asian fans per capita. Some teams probably have a disproportionate amount of female fans. Some teams bring all the ethnicities/races (white, black, asian etc) and all the generations together (boomers to gen Z)

Some teams somehow find a way to attract defined niche populations(the hipster and hippie crowds for example)

Does sports fandom pretty much comes down to demographics ? Different teams have different demographics and customers

Urban vs suburban
City vs country
blue collar vs white collar
Yuppies vs working class
Democrats vs republicans
Immigrants vs born and raised natives
Wealthy vs poor

Queens and Bronx :manny:

In DC area, Commanders are the team for everyone.

Nationals and Capitals are the wealthy suburbs teams.

Wizards are DC’s team
Translation:

Commanders = white, black, poor, rich, middle class ´, wealthy, blue collar, white collar, old, young, immigrant, native, casual, diehard, conservative, liberal, urban, rural etc. NFL Football is the passion that unites everyone from all walks of life. All roads lead to NFL fandom.

Capitals/ nationals = transplanted white folks who didn’t have a baseball or hockey team of their own but remained loyal to their NFL team, whitewashed suburban minorities, nerds, suburb/exurb cacs in general

Wizards-= mix of local American black folks, African immigrants (Ethiopian, Nigerian, Somali, etc) both white and black urban yuppies, young college kids, urban hipsters, white liberals, Middle Eastern/Salvadoran/Mexican/Asian/Chinese immigrants, multigenerational DC folks before gentrification and transplant invasion (so basically the people who lived in Washington D.C when it was accurately called « chocolate city »)

Not just Islanders. All hockey fans are :mjpls:
I definitely fukk With hockey because it’s honestly a exciting sport to watch but yeah a lot of white American hockey fans seem to be :mjpls: towards the NBA. They are salty and jealous because the NBA greatly overshadows the NHL. They resent the cultural dominance and popularity of the nba. Many of them are stupid and delusional enough to believe that the nhl would be more popular if the nba didn’t exist. If such a reality existed, Hockey would still struggle to gain market share in America because football and baseball would still be much bigger and revelant than hockey.
I feel like in NYC, Mets fans are mostly white.
The 3 NHL teams located in the NYC area tell you otherwise . They easily Have the whitest fanbases per capita, per percentage and by aggregate (total numbers) in the city.

I would add there are parts of Maryland like Anne Arundel and Howard County where the older folks are Skins/Commanders fans and the younger are Ravens fans

I never consider those areas as DC area, but you are right.
