I've always got the idea that more Puerto Rican see themselves as ethnicity and that was the identity as opposed to a racial identity that was imposed on them by the United States. Is that correct?

Puerto Rico is a place with a variety of people living there.

Its like asking: "Are Californians Asian?"

:comeon: let's be realistic the place has a collective identity just as any other Nation would. It's not like you got a white Puerto Ricans over here and black Puerto Ricans over there there is a level homogeneity and Puerto Rico.
They even have a certain look to them just like black Americans have a certain look to them and Haitians ever certain look to them and Dominicans have a certain look to them. So even though many of them look mix they still who identify as black and I'm more likely identify as white. Personally I'm okay with that.

DNA studies reveal that the average Puerto Rican is mixed with a majority of European blood
and a significant portion of Sub-Saharan African blood.

Modern-day Indigenous/Taino heritage in PR tends to be negligible.

Take someone like J Lo's mother, who more than likely has an European/African admixture similar
to Tina Knowles or Valerie Jarrett.

Uccello's mom definitely has some black in her bloodline. Again there a lot of Puerto Ricans that look this way but are considered white.

The Puerto Ricans I see look pretty varied to my eyes.

You can say the thing for black Americans. But there's still a certain look that we have. It also depends on what region you live in. Down here in Florida you can usually point out the difference between a black American or a patient or another black immigrant especially if you come from the Northeast

We expect the entire globe to live by the white United States imposed, historic definition of negro/colored
as having any traceable amount of African blood.

So in Puerto Rico and most other places on the planet, if you have 80 percent Eurpoean blood and 20 percent African blood, you are considered white/Eurpoean. Majority rules.

Only in the United States could an 80 percent Eurpoean/20 percent African be considered "black" ("Hi Mariah"...).

And this is why "Dolezal-ing" can only happen here.

The Keystone State

I'm glad u brought this up.

The British were about preserving wyte supremacy and wyte "purity". Race mixing looked down upon and illegal. Still considered black or colored if you had one black great grandparent. - This created an AA community with somewhat diverse looks and similar experiences.

The Spaniards and the French were more into having the mixed race population identify with the dominant European culture and antiblackness. This creates the "I no black papi" , " I'm everything" "in not black/white I'm Rican" etc culture.

This is a huge reason why AA have a hard time relating to "Latinos" reppn culture over race. It's literally the opposite of the American system. To AA it would be like being a 2nd class person in Brittish culture.

But if they so anti-black then explain the years of black Puerto Rican cooperation and explain the fact that Puerto Rico's culture is way more African than African American culture by and large. They still practice African religions and such
