The top 5 hot rappers are generally considered to be Cole, ASAP, Schoolboy, Kendrick and Drake . The only time I recognize or care about their producer is when 40 produces for Drake.

Although Drake made 40, boi 1da and t-minus hot no one really care about of they are producing his shyt. Imo producers are losing. Back in the days we had the super producers with their own fanbases Kanye, Dre, Swizz, P, Timbo, Just blaze, Premo, Rza and on.. Today we have what? Alchemist who really isn't from this era.

And lol at producers getting more money than rappers, producers get money from record sales and album budgets (which is not a lot if you're not a huge name). While rappers get money from record sales, budgets and last but obviously not least concerts and festivals all over the world.

producers have never been more important than the artist what the fukk are yall smoking
Only producers that make money are the one's who do tracks for the big selling artist
or produced a huge hit that can keep bring those publishing checks.

nobody's going to pay a producer 50k to come do a show. A producer is not going to fill up an area like Eminem, Jay-Z

Producers barely even get paid now, because they fukked the game up giving the beats for free
so why would Birdman pay for beats when he has people give them to him for free just so they can have a track with a brand name.

Also since record's aren't selling anymore, unless you did a track for Eminem, Jay-Z, or Drake, your royalties will not be that lovely.

Also the real talented producers don't even make beats or do that shyt anymore, they make the loop backs and the synth sounds all these bum ass nikkaz use to make their beats.

this is still interestin' and it reminds me of what dr. dre said in that new xxl magazine issue

xxl asked him did he think the music industry needs saving and he said he thought so "for the artist's sake" he also said the producer is more than likely the last to get paid now because once the actual artist makes the music they can tour and make money.

then xxl asked him while statin' that the days of the superproducer aren't that important anymore. dr. dre said they weren't and that right now it's about shows and the stage. he went on to say that it's not many producers that are able to do that (perform on stage as oppose to just bein' the producer workin' on the album) which is why he hopes that the business of streamin' music can help save the music industry.

No one said that they ain't eating but are they eating like Wayne? Drake? Jeezy? Ross? Wiz Khalifa? Just comparing what people make of music.

The producers caking the most are the ones who sing, rap, design, do business and shyt as well i.e. Pharrell, Kanye, Timbo, Dre, Swizz, Puff etc.. And I think for all of them, production is like 1% of their income. Specially Ye, Dre and Puff.

Think about it, when you listen to hip hop these days usually your listening for a good beat as you usually know what youll get from the artist lyrically (since no one talks about shyt anymore). The only part of hip hop thats still really evolving and exciting is production, right now the game is driven by the top producers honestly, it used to be a feature would put you on but now all you need is a sonny digital beat and youve made it. This has probably been true for a while now but i think people are starting to realize whats happening, you got guys like lex and mike will who have reached almost superstar status, then you got guys like yung lean an robb banks who are completely carried by production. Plus we have a nice hierarchy of producers where the top ones make most of the heat, furthering the idea of a star producer.

I just thought about this listening to future, hes the perfect example of this. Future is in essence the creation of mike will, along with sonny digital and now metro boomin. Wiz had cardo, sledgren, and id labs, yg has dj mustards untalented ass, rick ross is the definition of being carried by production he has a team of great producers, Drake has always been boi1da 40 and t minus, gucci an waka are lex luger and the rest of 808 mafia, clams casino made both asap rocky and lil b (to an extent, they both have a lot of talented producers behind them). Producers have always been critical in hip hop, but i think we might be witnessing the point where theyre more important than the rapper now.

Edit: almost forgot, 2012 was the year of young chop. Dude was one of the most influential artists in hip hop and put chicago on the map again
so much is wrong with this :banderas:

mustard is many things but he isn't untalented :pachaha:

and foh with the rozay hate :camby:
Hasn't this always been the case? The difference now is that there are more dope producers, because anyone with a laptop can make a beat or imitate something. Back in the 90s having a Premo, Pete Rock, Timbaland, Dre, Swizz, etc beat was a big deal. In the 2000s a Dre, Timbaland, Kanye West, Scott Storch, etc beat was a big deal.

The concept of the big producer has changed now, and dudes have short runs on top instead of prolonged relevance. Boi1da was everywhere when Drake's first album dropped, then Lex Lugar took over. Young Chop had a run, Mike Will had a run, now Mustard is that dude. And all their beats pretty much sound the same.
:what: u serious breh

more delusional kanye stanning :snoop: kanye was never a super producer. Nobody was looking for his beats the way people were looking for a timbo or scott storch beat

:dead: at schoolboy q and asap being top 5 hot rappers. In what world? On the internet? :pachaha: internet relevancy ≠ real life relevancy

Delusional Kanye stanning?
He was producing hits for Janet, Jay-z, Nas, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, MJ official remixes and most big rappers and this is a dude who doesn't produce for anyone just to make money. He was producing to make the hottest joint on your album, not to have the most commercial hit (a la Scott Storch). Just like Jay-z doesn't feature on anyones singles but his features are often amongst the most known shyts on the album.
It's pretty known that he's very selective. Just cause George Martin only produced for the Beatles doesn't mean that no one else wanted to fukk with him.

As far as Schoolboy Q and Asap goes I'm going by sales. Those are the top 5 new rappers selling the most, perhaps the internets power yields more sales than whatever the fukk you are talking about. Since surprise cocksucker, the internet = real life. iTunes = The biggest music store by far. shyt I'd guess that Amazon and iTunes >>> all other stores combined in the ages 18-30.

This is wrong on many levels. i think rappers a hundred times more important today, only problem is that they all fukking suck. honestly, in RAP music, would you rather hear a song with a type of beat that you've never heard before and some dude doing the same shyt, or would you rather hear a dope beat no matter what style and listen to some dude go OFF. there are tons of examples of this. FUTURE for one is not the creation of Mike Will, he's actually a dope ass rapper on STANDARD trap beats, no matter what the song. I feel like someone like Drake lacks because his beats are too experimental, like why do I wanna listen to someone's shyt that is all off kilter when in my opinion, rap music is supposed to BANG, thats why Drake was at his best on Take Care. Even someone like Kendrick, he's got fairly standard beats, like not too out there or unique enough so that he as a rapper dominates the song. and finally, over all those standard trap beats we have the one and only Young Thug who if anyone said that the producer on a track with him was more important, I'd have to kick them in the nuts.
