it's also more likely than not Amazon will use this addition of workers in the future as an example of the positive impact of Amazon jobs should they seek a large scale expansion going forward which they will again ask for tax breaks.

And in no way is this an L for Amazon. They had every major hub in the country courting them to open HQ 2 which they ended up in a great location and received the breaks they were seeking.

:manny:
We already have enough evidence of what happens when Amazon opens up their HQ in a city.

Rising home prices, Amazon writing their own tax laws, homelessness and inequality.

It's obvious that the whole HQ search was a charade done to extort as much money from cities as possible. They already picked NY as their location but had all these cities bending over backwards for the HQ even though they knew they were never going to fukking Ohio. How come they didn't open their HQ2 in Columbus or Indianapolis after they dropped out of Queens? :jbhmm:

AOC first responsibility is to her constituents, let Manhattan worry about their city services, Lord knows they make enough money. Paying for commute is part of the cost of living, If her constitutes have access to closer employment opportunities, they don't have to spend money going into the city. paying to go work in someone else's neighborhood is part of the servitude and a drain on city services anyway.
You seem to have it backwards. She wasn't talking about Manhattan's services she was talking about Queens. The drain isn't her residents going to jobs, it's outsiders coming in who would use Queens services but don't live there, don't pay taxes there, and work for a company that pays zero taxes. All city services but especially transport would get used with very little getting paid into at the local level.

If they have to linger around Queens, they will have to put money in Queens economy

Not nearly as much as they take out. You ever been to one of those big tech headquarters? Everything is in-house and self-contained. They're at work to make money, not to spend it.

I live in queens and work in manhattan. This is a dishonest argument. People commute.
Wouldn't you rather live and work in queens and not be bothered with Manhattan, obviously you can't afford to live in Manhattan

Her constituents in Queens and the Bronx are better off with some new jobs they can apply for in Manhattan than having to dig into their own tax dollars to improve civic infrastructure around a potential HQ sized building that was not paying any taxes.

You realize that under the proposal with tax breaks that Queens would basically be taking out Amazon's trash and doing their landscaping for free like when Paulie tells his grandma's gardener he's gotta start doing Johnny Sacks lawn too :lolbron:

Even if Queens infrastructure isnt built like Manhattan, your sleepy neighborhood will go away Amazon or no Amazon. You will pay the cost eventually

You will pay the cost eventually but with what money?

With Amazon 2HQ: Sleepy neighborhood goes away as big business descends on the suburb. Billions of dollars are generated but Queens and NYS only get the income tax. Traffic around the 2HQ gets crazy and some fast casual restaurants open to serve the workers. Soon the homeless population in NY migrates to this area to beg from the workers. The subway stop becomes overcrowded.

However the city of Queens has generated very little funds that can be used to address these problems.

Without 2HQ: This takes a little longer but as you said Queens won't be sleepy forever it's part of NYC. Some multi use buildings and new condo developments gentrify the area. The developers of these buildings had to pay their taxes to build them and now the businesses and landowners are expected to pay taxes on the proceeds. The neighborhood starts getting crowded like the section above.

However the govt had the opportunity to build a nice little rainy day fund by taxing the companies that caused the increased congestion issues. This, they have the funding to try to fix the problems.
