AOC was right. Amazon, Twitter, and Facebook are moving to NYC anyways WITHOUT tax incentive

Don’t let anyone tell you the people in power are that much more capable then you because these dummies (Cuomo) were about to mortgage the city’s future to pay these dudes to come here when it’s common sense they would come ANYWAY. Top talent wants to live in major cities like NYC, Chicago, DC, ATL, LA and SF these firms are gonna put themselves there if they plan on attracting long term workers. They need the city. Not the other way around. ESPECIALLY when it comes to New York City.

Not all that surprising if you know much about the tech industry.

I’m just going to quote a post I made in the thread about the two winning cities from Amazon’s initial HQ2 “contest”:

I think people underestimate how big the tech scene is here. It's one of the largest in the country outside of SF/Silicon Valley. Between the location and the tech workers already here, Amazon was probably always going to expand their presence here.

Amazon needs a larger presence in NYC more than NYC needs a larger Amazon presence.

NYC will be fine:manny:

while google, microsoft, facebook, etc are on a hiring spree for the best software engineers in the city, amazon is gonna institute a hiring freeze in NYC unless they get a tax-break:rudy:
You think Amazon is bringing 25k jobs to NYC yes or no?

no I don't and i didn't believe that figure when they said it last year either. Just keep your eye on Virginia and see if amazon delivers the 25k jobs they promised.
So on one hand you believe they are in an arms race to hire talent, but then you also don't believe they're actually going to hire the talent needed to fill a second headquarters.

You're being dishonest. :francis:

Just say you're okay with 1500 jobs. :mjlol:

that 25k jobs was bullshyt and not guaranteed, plus it wouldnt have been 25k new yorkers, it wouldve been tech jerk offs that they brought in that would price everyone out of that hood and who knows maybe all of queens eventually, look at seattle.

This is huge cause that was one of the MAIN criticisms I've heard of her, that she somehow "hurt New York."

No disrespect you just said a bunch of hoe babble. Are you really equating the moving of a manufacturing plant ( To pay workers less I remind you) to Amazon, Facebook and a whole bunch of other tech companies paying outrages salaries to be in the Coast ( NYC, San Fran, Los Angeles, etc) The economic growth in this country is very uneven hence why I said I felt bad for the rest of the country outside of NY and Cali.

In fact Cali is about to blow the doors off everybody real quick
https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2019-12-05/california-economy-ucla-forecast?_amp=true

This income inequality is about to be brutal for 2020.
That's a meaningless comparison because those people earning "outrageous salaries" apply from all over the country to work at those companies. Tech folk just relocate wherever the jobs are and they even get paid to move, so what you bytching about? In fact, all those high-paid tech workers moving in can destroy the cost of living - look at how hard it is to get by on a low salary in San Fran, Seattle, New York, etc.

Meanwhile, a manufacturing plant actually employs local people. I agree the lower pay is bullshyt which is why there should be a higher federal minimum wage and better federal union protections to even the playing field.

And posters using "hoe babble" for just anything now. :mjlol:

Well of course, but so would that 25,000. Like I said, I don’t have a dog in this fight but I’d guess the economic benefits would be greater with the higher number of employees.
Nah, I doubt that 25,000 would grow it would actually be the opposite. When companies are applying for tax breaks they lie their asses off about how many people they going to hire. Look at the situation in Wisconsin. They were given nearly $5 billion in tax breaks on the promise of creating 13,000 jobs.

It's been two years so far and they've only hired a few hundred people. They've "promised" they'll be up to 1,500 jobs by next May but no one believes them. At this point it's generally accepted that they will never, ever reach 13,000 jobs.

Wisconsin would not be the first government Foxconn has shifted its promises to. Foxconn had promised to invest $5 billion and create 50,000 jobs in India, only to cut it to a fraction of that. “Similar results were seen in Vietnam, where Foxconn committed to a $5 billion investment in 2007, and in Brazil, where Foxconn spoke of a $10 billion plan in 2011,” and the plans were never realized, The Washington Post reported. And then there is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where Foxconn’s promise to invest $30 million and hire 500 workers never happened.

NyC is gonna be so unliveable in the 2020s.

This is happening in all the major cities around the world. Even Toronto is getting to that point. Just a place for the rich and wealthy. I never thought we’d see a living wage anytime soon but it is gonna happen sooner than I thought. shyt is not sustainable.
