I'm not the biggest history buff but you definitely need to read up on your history and learn some stuff.
saying all of that the movie was dope & while it did have some very rough patches, the movie did a good job of telling its story and had some nice gems for the brain in there as well.

If anybody listens to the black guy who tips podcast, they're discussion on this movie made me appreciate it a whole lot more. Went from really liking it to loving it
