Not all but you definitely see a spike around the 1960s.

A quick web search shows 9 nba players with statues, including jordan, pippen, iceman and the mailman. Russell and Wilt. Kareem magic dr j and dominique. Someone else mentioned Harriet Tubman and and Frederick Douglas. Joe Lewis has one. Who else?

Exactly. Its up to black people to commission statues celebrating their heros.

There were many brave and amazing Africans that existed during slavery. They should absolutely be lauded and commemorated.

Whites know the importance of symbolism. If only black folk could learn this too.
